ISLA MUJERES, 8 de enero.-
Resurfacing work has resumed on prolongation Rueda Medina avenue, which is partially closed, causing delays for motorists. The passage of students, motorists, and other people also hinders the workers. The paving work is expected to be completed on January 15, according to the Director of Public Works, Miguel Ariel Caballero Garcia, but the work will be completely finished on January 30, with topes and signage.
The Director of  Public Safety will identify areas for the placement of signs signalling crosswalks and speedbumps. After the paving work is completed, the pavement will be sealed, and then paint will be applied to identify the lanes, and finally the signs, crosswalks, and topes will be completed. including scanning, the site will display fragments of the history of Isla Mujeres, including original documents like birth certificates dating fomr 1874, among other documents of great cultural and historical value. It will also feature a collection of old photographs that any citizen can look at, and it will contain important information about the history of the town. Unprotected from abuses by CableMas

Desprotegidos por abusos de Cable Más

Islanders are fed up with the poor television and internet service provided by the cable company "CableMas" in Isla Mujeres. "The service provided by this company is of very poor quality. They remove channels you had previously contracted for without saying anything. The internet is always failing and  the signal is never very strong, and it is constantly cutting out," said señora Conchis López. There is no PROFECO office on the island for residents to file complaints.

Lanchero boat tours operating at 30%
Lancheros turísticos operan al 30%+] Ver mas
The lanchero boats of the five tourist service cooperative are not doing well this winter season, because people prefer to ride in golf carts. Almost 70% of the fleet was inactive on Thursday, and it was announced that the port would be closed on Friday due to the arrival of cold front #25. The number of members offering tours has tripled in recent decades, with the creation of more cooperative departing from Punta Sam. Tourists are approached in Puerto Juarez, and in Punta Sam, then arriving on the island, it becomes a 'bullfight' (price war) with people asking for reduced prices.
The advantage that the islanders still have it that when northerly winds close the ports, they may still be allowed to navigate near the island where it is safe. But when the gusts escalate to 60kph or more, it completely closes down navigation for small boats. The holiday periods of Christmas and of Easter are the best for these tour operators, but they face less economic activity the  rest of the year, except it picks up a little during summer vacation.

Making progress on renovating the local pier

Renovation of the wooden pier is 50 percent complete, and replacement of the planks, beams, and posts (? tablones, trabes y sufrideras) are in their final phase. THis nearly 100 meters of dock is steps from the Rueda Medina boardwalk, and will serve as an alternative pier when activity is intense at the concrete pier. It is also planned that there will be an exhibition of photographs of the history of the island, with intention of creating a museum. It was over half a century ago, in the 1950's when this improvement to the island was made and the first load of supplies for the hotels were brought in ,and the first cars were brought over on the bow of the Sultana del Norte ferry boat. The first men who were responsible for maintaining this infrastructure were the brothers  Alvaro, Ariel, Romeo y Raúl Magaña Carrillo,  who provided ferry service from Puerto Juarez; and they began to move the first groups of recreational tourists in the 1980's.
