Las dotaron de mejores servicios

A meeting was held to discuss the project of obtaining "Standard 120" certification, as well as the "Blue Flag" certification for North Beach, from the  Instituto Mexicano de Normalización y Certificación which has offered this designation since 2006. It is noted that Mayor Agapito is the chairman of the Committee on Clean Beaches Cancun-Riviera Maya, whose members were instructed to work towards certification of the beaches of Isla Mujeres.
The director of ZOFEMAT (Federal Maritime Zone) in Isla Mujeres spoke about the criteria for certification, as well as  the actions that will be required to meet them. North Beach has been recognized as one of the best in the world, preferred by visitors of sites like TripAdvisor. She said, "Imagine the potential of our beaches if we make them orderly, if we provide services and security to sunbathers, and above all we take care of the environment".
These actions have begun with the 'rearrangement' reordenamiento of the informal vendors, and the reactivation of the ongoing program of maintenance and cleaning of the beaches. This latter program was in operation this week with 15 people assigned to maintain cleanliness at the areas of Playa Norte, the  Caribbean coast, and the beaches of Punta Sam.
In Mexico there are 30 beaches that have obtained the Standard 120 Certification, and there are only five that have been given the Blue Flag certification. The latter is recognized worldwide, and is a guarantee for tourists of the quality of the destination and the quality of the beach.
Working toward certification will include the municipal agencies of   Desarrollo Urbano y Medio Ambiente, Ecología, Servicios Públicos, Zofemat, Servicios Generales, Turismo, and Protección Civil, among others. (Urban Development & Environment, Ecology, Public Services, Fed Zone, General Services, Tourism, and Civil Protection.)  They will first work toward the Standard 120 certification, and then the Blue Flag certification.
On behalf of the Mayor, municipal treasurer Alvaro Magaña Galué, said: "We are entering a process of continuous improvement, to make our beaches different, and to behave differently ourselves,  which will allow more visitors to come to our shores daily, who will receive better services, making  Isla Mujeres a world class tourist destination."    There are 33 criteria for the Blue Flag certification which include improving infrastructure to provide public toilets, access for people with disabilities, and security, as well as management programs for water quality, solid waste, environmental educations, and management of biodiversity. Benefits of certification include an improved touristic image, touristic competitiveness, improved services, cleanliness, order, and security.

The Harbor Master and personnel of the Navy conducted a joint Operativo de Inspección y Vigilancia at various marinas and fishing cooperatives to detect irregular vessles or persons without documents who are in Mexico illegally. The operation began at noon yesterday and continued this morning, apparently without incident. There were no arrests or boat seizures.
According to the Harbor Master, Ismael Gonzalez Gil, during this operation they were also seeking to locate the owner of the boat that capsized on March 16th, with dozens of cans of fuel on board, but the owner of "The Genesis" was not found. The 28 foot long boat is moored by the pier of the fishing cooperative "Patria y Progreso", and is still under water.
The Harbor Master said these works are part of a protocol of Inspección y Vigilancia that take place in ports and areas as determined by the port authorities and the Mexican Navy. The operation included marinas adjacent to  Makax Lagoon, the marina Cruise Divers, the Makax fishing cooperative, and the Patria & Progreso fishing cooperative.

The Mayor supports this law and recognizes the determination of State Governor Roberto Borge Angulo to submit the Social Planning Act la Ley de Ordenamiento Social to thorough review prior to its publication in the Official State Publication.
Mayor Agapito Magana Sanchez said, "We must not overlook or lose sight that the tourism industry is the basis and foundation of the economy of the state. It can not be undermined, for any reason or pretext, because is the the main source of employment in Quintana Roo."
He explained that this new law will be positive because it seeks to ensure stability of the tourism sector in situations of protests or strikes, which can sometimes be violent or affect the rights of third parties.  "I'm sure," said the Mayor, "that the lawmakers who  approved the Social Planning Act were very careful in their wording affecting guarantees of the free expression of ideas,  without limiting the guarantees enshrined in the Eighth and Ninth Articles of the Constitution."
"There have been many years of effort, and a great deal of  work done to ensure that Quintana Roo is a  globally recognized brand for tourists, which cannot be compromised, especially by those with narrow interests, because this destination has earned its image  as a tranquil, safe destination," said the mayor.

It is expected to offer expert advice on the subject of 'selling' small inns or hotels, without having to lower prices. It is noted that similar hotels in Tulum sell for three times as much, comparing a room here for $30 to a similar one there whose rate is $100. Part of the second stage of the plan involves plans to attend the DEMA show. They also want to address the daytripper tourists, so that they will consider staying overnight on their next trip. Sr Povedano said the association supports the actions of the officials downtown to relocate the informal vendors.
