We are very proud of the young Taekwondo athlete Jhojan Cabrera Molina and his teacher/coach Mario Nahuatl. He won the first gold medal for Isla Mujeres and thus advanced to the regional competition. He competed in the 'Sub (under) 17 category'

INTENSE SCHEDULE OF PUBLIC WORKS IN ISLA MUJERES
The details about the public works projects in Isla Mujeres are available for public scrutiny and the works continue with an intense schedule. The municipal Department of Public Works is conducting several projects, which are improving the living conditions of the populace.
One of the landmarks of the island is the Mundaca Hacienda, which is visited by hundreds of tourists daily and is a meeting place for islanders, in addition to hosting public events. The reconstruction of the large palapa is nearly completed, which is located at the entrance of the archeological site, and functions as a lobby or foyer. The old palapa was deteriorating and becoming potentially hazardous. It had an area of 340 square meters, and the new one has twice the capacity with an area of 764 square meters. The palapa is supported by 20 poles, without internal supports, providing a large open area, and also features 12 lights.
The City is listening to the needs of the young people, and has begun construction on a new Skate Park, near the curve of the Chiapanecos, which will feature ramps and an esplanade, with a total area of over 500 meters.
The City began repairs to the downtown cobblestone street, Morelos Avenue, with the staff doing the work at night to prevent accidents and to avoid interfering with local commercial activities.

The Chairman of the Board of the Red Cross of Isla Mujeres, Jorge Cardenas, thanked the Red Cross of Playa Carmen for their generosity, and he thanked the Rotary International Group for the valuable donation. He said "This will help us to provide better service to our island community." He said the community of foreign residents have always supported the Red Cross, which has come to have a prestigious medical team who serve more than 5000 patients yearly.

Stroll five minutes down the coastal sidewalk to Mango Cafe, Bufalo, Bahama Mama, Compadres Barbacoa or Manolitos. Walk less than 10 minutes to shop at Chedraui or to dine at Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, or Seso Loco. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Our guests recommend the Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Then for ~8 months we are in sync w Central Time in the US, since we will no longer be changing back & forth with Daylight Savings Time. (DST is March 8-Nov.1 in the US, and April 5-Oct. 25 in Mexico.) We're only synced with EST" ~4 mos/yr from Nov 1-March 8. To permanently adjust your clocks, you can chose a location like Panama that stays on EST without changing to DST

Thursday February 12th will be the Navy Wives Breakfast at 9:00 am at Club Naval in Centro. The proceeds go to the Navy Hospital. This month the theme is Valentine's Day, and the tickets will be 120 pesos. This breakfast is really more like lunch, and we should be meeting the wife of the new commandant.
