ISLA MUJERES, 7 de febrero.-
Isla Mujeres is the second municipality to have an application for mobile phones with information about its tourist attractions. The "Travel Guide Isla Mujeres" (Guia de Viajes Isla Mujeres) app gives users the ability to locate various attractions found on Isla and was 'up' last week for Android and iOS platforms. Users can access maps, promotions, and discounts for bars, hotels, and restaurants, among others.
The Mayor explained that it gives users 11 query options including:  Beaches, parks, restaurants & bars, hotels, rental agencies, tours, marinas, real estate, and ferries/boats (navieras). Information about each of these is given in kilometers and estimated travel time, whether walking or in a vehicle. It includes information about the Continental Zone with data about three hotels at Playa Mujeres, plus where tourists can take the boat to get to the island. The developer of the application is Touchtastic, whose website says the software became available last year, and requires the 2.3 version of Android or the version seven of iOS.

ISLA MUJERES, 7 de febrero.-
In order to provide better opportunities for workers of different companies in Isla Mujeres the CROC union trains and certifies chefs and waiters in local restaurants. This has been offered since last year and is a professional system that includes a written evaluation, giving of information, a physical exam, presentation of skills, and knowledge about the combinations of flavors in foods to appeal to the senses.

TRAINING IN CASE OF FIRE EVACUATION
To provide security and protection of children, programs are operated by the System for Integral Family Development (DIF). The training this week was conducted by the staff of Civil Protection at CENDI, the childcare facilities, and included lessons in how to react in extreme emergencies such as fire.
They learned how to work an extinguisher and how to fight fires, as well as other training about what to do in a fire. They conducted fire drills, with evacuation in an orderly and attentive manner, emphasizing that the safety of the children comes first and who should attend what area and act accordingly. Periodic reviews of electrical installations was recommended since this can be a direct cause of fires. The staffs and leaders of the three organizations thanked each other.

Good influx of tourists in Isla Mujeres
Buen inicio de semana en IM[+] Ver mas
There was a good influx of tourists at the start of this weekend via the ferries and other boats, and commercial activity was good despite the threat of rain in the afternoon. The police continue to investigate after the arrest of two pickpockets at the ferry terminal the other day, since the video showed there were three others, for five in total. The terminal expanded its video coverage, with more equipment to monitor inside and outside. This addresses a long standing request from the business community regarding the need for a network of video cameras at various points on the island to ensure safety.  Thefts occur along malecon-boardwalks and Punta Sur when tourists leave their valuables behind in vehicles while they take pictures.

Tracking three bank accounts of the high school
Rastrean tres cuentas bancarias de Cobach[+] Ver mas

Some of the parents of high school students are reviewing three bank accounts opened in 2011, 2013, and 2014 respectively, to track the use of hundreds of thousands of voluntary fees paid by parents. The account numbers are given in the article.
The concerned parents say the Association of Parents was not renewed since 2012, which violates regulations. They are asking for intervention from officials in the state school system and from the Human Rights Commission, to investigate possible negligence by the director, Javier Solls Emiliano Martinez, over the past three semesters.

Renovation of the soccer field going very slowly
Tortuguismo en rehabilitación de campo de futbol[+] Ver mas
The renovation of the soccer field of the Sports Unit, campo de futbol de la Unidad Deportiva, is  progressing slowly, although the municipal government offered to rehabilitate the roof last year, improve the lighting, and other maintenance. The lighting was renovated a few days ago, but progress on the project in general has been slow. The artificial turf needs replacing, as does some of the electrical work.
