This is similar to the article yesterday about the taxi union wanting enforcement for the golf carts that don't have license plates. It is estimated that there are 600 golf carts on the road, plus those without permits & plates. The taxistas say some agencies have increased their inventory without having proper documentation.

Proposal to rescue the breakwaters
Propuesta de rescate de las escolleras[+] Ver mas
Businessman Carlos Cervera Peraza plans to present a proposal to the Mayor to replace the broken breakwaters, to prevent further erosion of North Beach. He wants them installed before Easter. He has a representative of the American company with him, and the project will cost about $30,000 dollars. His proposal is that the government pay 70% and the private sector pay 30%. At least six of the ("whales") tubes have been damaged by lack of maintenance since they were installed in 2007. This company offers a comprehensive warranty and the replacement material had a durability of 100 years. In some sections, nearly 100 meters of sand have been lost.

Iguana sanctuary
Santuario de las iguanas] Ver mas
Iguanas have sanctuaries in Isla Mujeres at schools and volunteers are working together to provide spaces with food, to decrease the level of mortality with occupation of their former nesting areas. The Schools of Enriqueta Camarillo & Roa, and the high school Colegio Bachilleres have recently added feeding stations, so the iguanas don't have to cross the street and risk being crushed by tires.
The "Green Patrol" association premiered the idea and opened a site for recreation and conservation by the Hacienda Mundaca. The municipal Ecology department is involved in this proposal to provide more feeding stations, and encourage the citizens to participate in this environmental cause, especially in the properties near green areas, and to pay greater attention to these native reptiles.
It is known that there are certain individuals who've already responded to this need, especially foreign residents who live on the oceanfront, who are already feeding the iguanas & have them sunning themselves. On the cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea, there are still many iguanas, but they suffer attacks from humans, cats, and dogs. Although locals here do not usually eat them, some people from other parts of the country do, and bring their eating habits with them when they move here, said a resident.

Carnaval yesterday....
The King & Queen & their troupe danced in the street before leading the parade..
