On Tuesday, August 19th, the head of the Federal Ministry of  the Economy,  Secretaría de Economía Federal,  Luis García Silva, will be at the Town Hall to explain and assist with the Entrepreneurial Support Network. This is one of the most important business programs by the government of President Enrique Pena Nieto, and its motto is “Mover a México”.
The Mayor, Agapito Magana Sanchez, explained that the purpose of the Network is to offer assistance to every Mexican with a good business idea, no matter where they live in the municipality. He said in this municipality, with its economy based on tourism, there are individuals, or even entire families who run a small or medium size business and need professional advice or financial support to increase and expand their business.
The Entrepreneurial Support Network is a strategy of linking the available programs of assistance between governmental and private sectors to allow participants to work together. Citizens interested in creating or expanding their small or medium sized business can go to the office of the Secretaría General del Ayuntamiento for more information.

The Mayor, Agapito Magana Sanchez, attended the closing of the children's summer program,  Baxlo´ob Palalo´ob (Juego de niños / Child's play), held at the dome in colonia Salina Chica. The program was a success, providing children with healthy, positive activities and knowledge to implement in their everyday lives & to encourage healthy lifestyles.
After three years, goals were exceeded with 73 children enrolled, who were divided into two groups: ages 6-9, and 10-14. They were awarded medals and congratulations during the closing ceremony. The Mayor said he hopes the number of participants will be doubled next summer.

Reopening Human Rights offices
Reabrirá oficinas Derechos Humanos [+] Ver mas
There will be an official ceremony for the opening of the Human Rights Commission of Quintana Roo office in Isla Mujeres on Monday. The new office is located a few meters from City Hall on Madero street at the corner of Guerrero. The former office was closed in October 2013, and had operated out of the City Hall since March, on Mondays and Fridays.
The event will take place at noon, and officials will be in attendance, including the President of the state agency, Harley Sosa Guillén. The agency may resume workshops for education, which had been developed before the closure of the office, in coordination with other organizations and institutions working on crime prevention programs such as those against bullying.

"Adjustment" of taxi rates has begun
Entró en vigor “ajuste” de tarifa de taxi+] Ver mas
Most of this information has already been translated. The taxi union is still waiting for approval for an increase in rates from the Department of Transport, which has been in the news lately.
Members of the union point out that the rate allowed by the Department of Transport for moving passengers between the ferry docks and the colonia neighborhoods is 26 pesos, but only 50% of that amount has been charged to local residents. They say with the continuous increases in costs of fuel and parts it has become untenable to maintain that price. A manager said, "We have been supporting the working class for years by never applying the authorized rate."
A few days ago some operators began charging 15 pesos for taking two people together, and 20 pesos for three passengers traveling together.. They say they will go bankrupt if they give exclusive service  to one person for 13 pesos, and they ask for people to be understanding. The reporter found there were some drivers charging 13 pesos at noon on Saturday, and others were asking for support from their employers to avoid being reprimanded.
They are still awaiting authorization for the request to increase rates for both locals and tourists, but promise they will not increase this local rate again if, or when, the request is approved. At the beginning of the school year, the amount charged to students will be increased to eight pesos, having  previously been six pesos, which will affect family budgets.

Karen Rosenberg's
NEED DIABETES SUPPLIES FOR OCTOBER DIABETES CLINIC: We have been doing Diabetes Clinics on Isla Mujeres for five years, with more local residents participating annually. This is a joint project of bilingual social workers, nurses, and other health care professionals originally from the USA, working with Isleno community partners. Diabetes is now the primary cause of death in Mexico.
We are in great need of donations of glucometers and strips, specifically these brands: Contour, Contour Next and OneTouch. Many doctor's offices, clinics and hospitals discard strips that are almost expired. Strips are actually still effective for at least a year after expiration dates so often those are the ones that are most often donated. If you have any contact with medical professionals or pharmaceutical reps, you can often get current supplies. We can also use lancets, lancet devices, alcohol pads, and syringes.
The next clinic will be in October 2014. Contact Karen Rosenberg at kfrlisw@gmail.com or Kathy Ennis at kathy@kathyandkeith.mx or FB either of us. We accept monetary donations too and will buy strips to bring down.
