A meeting is planned with the Mayor, because the cabbies want the authorities of  the  Dirección de Transporte to address the golf cart problem. The leader of the taxi union, Eduardo Rodriguez Peniche said that all resources will be exhausted before they resort to extreme acts. He said they do not intend to take the law into their own hands, but they will take action against any golf cart and will not tolerate any more golf cart concessions. He thinks it is likely they will reach an agreement. He siad they have information and pictures of various companies who have carts circulating the island without license plates, and with excessive numbers of passengers. He said no one is regulating this, which is why they are meeting with the appropriate authorities, and seeking enforcement. He said it is important for the inspectors to do their job, and that the director of Transito should take measures to ensure the golf carts are operating legally.

Although the state Judicial Police (PJE) have said they have thefts of motorcycles under control in Isla Mujeres, at least once a week there is a disappearance, mostly of scooters. In colonia La Gloria, one was stolen from in front of the owner's door, and he was unable to file a complaint because the office of the Public Ministry of Common Law (MPFC) was closed, due to the holiday. With no complaint filed, the state Judicial Police (PJE) could not initiate an investigation, so his friends and family were in charge of this work. As of this afternoon, they had not yet been successful in finding the scooter which is a Honda Wave, that is the color of red wine, owned by the family of Magana Rios. The owners suspect the unit has been taken away, rather than dismantled, as has happened in the past.

Outbreak of dengue
Nuevo brote de dengue[+] Ver mas

There have been several positive cases of dengue among families who live some meters from the  Hospital Integral in Isla Mujeres, according to data collected by Por Esto. A telephone interview was conducted with one of those who are affected, Arturo Rios Magana. He complained about an ex-official in the neighborhood of colonia Electristas, who has several properties that are overgrown and could provide breeding grounds for Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes. He also complained about potential breeding areas that are near his family home, which is adjacent to the hospital. His home has has experienced more than one case recently.
In an interview with residents who live downtown, they said the main potential breeding ground there is the area where the Perla Caribe hotel was located, where there are many receptacles where rain water stagnates. Another site is the Hotel Berny, which is being remodeled, and has a pool from which rainwater is rarely drained. Now there is a wooden boat near the boardwalk where the Perla Caribe was formerly located.
On various internet pages there are comments from tourists who say the presence of mosquitoes prevented them from opening their windows for some fresh air. The daughter of Jose Rios tested positive for dengue and lives near the hotel Berny. There have been 15 cases in the municipality in January, and families who are affected include Magana, Ramos, Rios, and Osorio. They were all classic and there have been no cases of  hemorragic dengue. Residents want the City to punish owners who do not take care of their properties and allow standing water to accumulate.

There were plans to move the overhead lines underground when the plans were made to remodel downtown in 2008. This aspect of the project has not been completed, which included moving lines underground on Hidalgo and Rueda Medina Avenues.
Along Juarez Avenue there are  cables overhead that 'collide' with balconies and walls, including those facing the Naval base. One homeowner said they fear electrocution of themselves or of the guests who spend the winter in their home, because of the proximity of the wires.

The cost per kilogram of LP gas in February in this area is 14.23 which is 12 more centavos than in January. The costs of filling tanks are as follows: 10 kilos is 142.30 pesos;  20 kilos is 284.60  and 30 kilos is 426.90 pesos, according to the Diario Oficial de la Federación  at their website HERE

Feb 1 Competition for Adult King & Queen of Carnaval

Feb 2  Candlemas / Fiesta de la Candelaria Join your friend for a tamale party! On King's Day (January 6th), those who got the baby Jesus in their piece of Rosca/ King's cake, are hosting the party today.
The second of February occurs forty days after Christmas, and is celebrated by Catholics as the "Feast of Purification" or as the "Presentation of Christ at the Temple." According to Jewish law it was customary to bring a baby to the temple after that period of time had passed.  Jesus would have been taken to the temple on February second, if he was born on Dec. 25th.
The second day of February corresponds to the first day of the first month on the Aztec calendar, called Atlcahualo o Quauitleoa. There is an ancient tradition in many parts of Mexico to take corn cobs to the church to be blessed on this day, in anticipation of the onset of  planting season.
Atole is also traditional for this party, which like tamales, is a corn based food.Chocolate is usually included on both celebrations, King's Day and Candlemas, and like corn, is also an important substance in indigenous traditions.
In many Catholic churches (and homes) in Mexico, on February second the baby Jesus icon is taken from the Nativity scene, dressed in finery, and moved to a niche, where it remains for the rest of the year before being 'lifted' to its niche.
The baby was placed in the Nativity during the first of the Posadas, on December 16th, and remained there until Candlemas. During the Posadas there is a children's Posada play on the town square and neighborhood reenactments of Mary & Joseph being denied shelter, with a  party at the house that admits them. On King's Day, January 6th, the figurine (and Mexican children) was given presents, "from the 3 Magi/ wise men".  The pieces of King's cake that are shared by families, parishes, and coworkers are also said to represent gifts from the Magi, with their three colors  representing the three Kings, and there are three baby figurines inside.
The tamales vary by region. In Isla Mujeres they may be accompanied by with sophisticated guajillo chile sauce with achiote , tomato , garlic , onion and spices, while in addition to masa and pork, the filling may include olives, capers , raisins and almonds. If it is prepared by people from Chiapas, they may have added carrot, potato, peas, peppers and boiled egg.

Feb. 2 is the midpoint between winter solstice and spring equinox, and some believe it can indicate  upcoming weather.

Feb 2 is  Dia de Marmota, or Groundhog's Day in the US

Feb 2 is World Wetlands Day  (Usually there is a clean up of the lagoon areas)
