From the City (Ayuntamiento de Isla Mujeres)

Municipal officials received information from the 2020 census which was conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). The main objective of the census is an objective count of the resident population in the municipality, which also provides information about its structure and main socioeconomic and cultural characteristics.

At the meeting between municipal officials and representatives of INEGI, they were advised how to enter the website of the Institute ( https://www.inegi.org.mx/ ) to learn the results of the data collected in the municipality during the first few months of last year. The census took place March 2-27, with the participation of just over 147,000 interviews throughout the country.

TV Isla Mujeres reports (LINK) that authorities have not yet identified the body that was found floating in the Bay near Isla Mujeres. It was reported to authorities on Monday at 11:30am by a fisherman known as “Langostero Valladares", who also posted a video on social media. Personnel with the Navy Search and Rescue unit recovered the body and and the FGE opened a investigation and file, taking charge of the case of the male who appeared to be between 30 and 40 years of age.

Authorities say his identity remains a mystery because they have not received a missing persons report, nor has the Harbor Master. The body was transferred to the SEMEFO (Medical Examiners) in CancĂșn for an autopsy, which will determine if the man died of drowning or for some other cause. Authorities said there were no visible signs of violence and they will investigate whether any missing person reports in Cancun match his description.
