Prevention of decompression class taught to fishermen

Imparten curso a pescadores

Due to the high incidence of decompression among fishermen-lobster divers, the head of the Hyperbaric Chamber, Ely Garcia, taught a course about prevention. The season is about to resume on July 1st. Last season, the highest rate of decompression occurred with 74 cases, and the previous season the total was 63.
Factors that aggravate decompression are dehydration, exertion, fatigue, and increased pressure (deeper dives). (Another article indicated increased age was also a risk factor.) It is also risky if they dive after a day of drunkenness and noted that they are seeking lobsters in the Yucatan Channel at depths of 40 to 60 meters.
Many of them don't use instruments to measure depth, air, or immersion time. They often work in a strong sea current, which requires a tremendous effort to cling to the rocks on the seabed to look for lobsters.
The Hyperbaric Chamber has been in use for 20 years, and is in need of replacement according to the recommendations of some specialists, but there is a lack of funding.

Incubation pen Tortugranja (not 2019)

Turtle nesting season continues throughout June. The turtles nest along the eastern beaches in the wee hours of the night and Tortugranja staff and volunteers gather the eggs and incubate them in a pen outside the facility.  Three species nest annually in Isla Mujeres;  Greens, Loggerheads, and Hawksbills, and very rarely, a Leatherback will attempt to nest, but the sand usually isn't deep enough. The sex of the turtles is determined by the temperature of the sand, which is common in reptiles.
