The DIF and young Islanders are working to care for the public spaces of the municipality LINK
.- The government of Isla Mujeres is committed to maintaining the good image of the municipality, and in coordination with the young people volunteering with the DIF social service agency, a clean up campaign took place in colonia La gloria near the open air theater, where they removed trash and painted the fence. .The president of volunteers with the municipal DIF, Miguelina Martínez Peña, explained that for the current government it is important to work in coordination with the island community to keep the municipality clean and presentable, which is why the young people participated for the second time on this day, contributing to their community through the maintenance of public spaces, which are for the enjoyment of everyone.
She said, "For us it is important to involve the whole community, but above all the young people, in the maintenance and care of our municipality, by carrying out these works we are encouraging them to participate actively in maintaining our Isla Mujeres as a special place that we can all enjoy."
Ms Martínez Peña encouraged young people to be part of the next campaign that will be held on Saturday, March 17, starting at 10 am, on the Caribbean coastal-perimeter road, in the vicinity of the cemetery and the Fovissste apartments, where cleaning and maintenance work will be carried out.
She also invited young people who are interested in volunteering to go to the volunteer offices, located in Hacienda Mundaca, Monday thru Friday, 9 am to 3 pm, where they can learn about the activities carried out by the group for the benefit of the community.
With these actions, the municipal government continues to work in coordination with the community to make Isla Mujeres a clean and beautiful municipality, with quality public spaces which families can enjoy together.

Rescue of 13 people at Isla Blanca LINK
The Department of the Navy-Armada of Mexico as a National Maritime Authority, acting as Coast Guard, reports that yesterday, personnel assigned to the Fifth Naval Region, in coordination with the Harbor Master of Puerto Juarez, Civil Protection and Public Security of Isla Mujeres Q. Roo, participated in the rescue by sea and land of 13 people who were in an area of difficult access on Isla Blanca Beach, Quintana Roo.
This action was taken after receiving a call from the Director of Civil Protection of Isla Mujeres, Q. Roo, requesting assistance to rescue 13 people who were on Isla Blanca, approximately 17 kilometers from Puerto Juarez, because the vessel that transported them to that area had developed a problem with its propulsion system.
For this reason, a Defender-class vessel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) of Isla Mujeres was dispatched immediately, while personnel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station of Puerto Juarez, traveled by land to the Isla Blanca Beach, where they found the stranded people in good health.
With these actions, the Department of the Navy-Armada of Mexico as a National Maritime Authority, reaffirms its commitment to the citizenry to safeguard human life at sea, as well as ensuring that Mexico has clean, safe and efficient ports.

Ultramar recently brought two new passenger ferries to Isla (calling them "Ferraris of the Sea"), saying the boats were replacing two ferries from the first fleet when the company began operations here in 2004. Actually, they were specially designed for a new route IN Cancun, across the Nichupté lagoon, connecting the Hotel Zone with the city's center. Ultramar is investing 50 million dollars in this project.
Environmentalists say this will worsen the situation in the lagoon, which they claim lacks the necessary depth to support the daily crossings of passenger ferries, with consequent risk for the mangroves.
Germán Orozco, General Director of Ultramar, that they already have all the permits necessary to carry out this activity, adding, "to navigate doesn't require environmental permits; it is navigation, it is not construction, there is zero impact to the lagoon".
Ultramar expects to begin operations within three months, claiming the 15 minute service could reduce vehicular traffic on Kukulcán Boulevard by 30%, and that it would be used by both tourists and hotel workers. Mr Orozco said that studies indicate this trip currently can take over an hour, and nearly two hours during Easter and Christmas, at peak hours.
Opponents say the boats would hardly be an alternative for mass transit, because the fares will be out of reach for the majority of the 40,000 employees who travel daily to work at various hotels in the tourism zone. The boat fares are expected to be about 70 or 80 pesos, while the buses and combis cost 10.5 pesos.
The project is called the "Multimodal Terminal of Maritime Transport" and the Ultramar ferries, with a capacity for 270 passengers each, will travel from the terminal located at Malecón Tajamar to kilometer 9 by the Convention Center and to kilometer 14 by the Ritz Carlton, and back.
Mr. Orozco said the studies took more than two years, at a cost of more than 1 million dollars, which included everything from the design of the boats to the parking lots and terminals at the two docks, as well as at the Tajamar terminal.
Ultramar has promoted this project since 2014, and it has gained the support of the Hotel Association of Cancun, the Association of Vacation Clubs (Acluvac), the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV), the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI) and the Business Coordinating Council. (CCE) of the Caribbean, among others.
Governor Carlos Joaquín González has not spoken openly for or against the project.

More spacious Maritime Terminal
Terminal marítima más espaciosa [+] Ver masFull article at this link The Port Authority (APIQRoo) intends to have more waiting area of the Maritime Terminal, after official personnel took possession of an area occupied by a luxury goods store, whose contract was revoked. Officials are waiting for a decision from the agency's legal department regarding proceedings to dismantle the entire property of 100 meters to covert it into part of the waiting area. The work is expected to take bout two days.
Procedures are also underway to revoke the permit of the company that manages the parking lot next to the Terminal, to proceed with a proposal to expand the terminal and reduce the saturation problems. The Port Authority has also requested the revocation of two other contracts, for use of the entry of the wooden pier across from Morelos street and the concrete pier near the (car) ferry.
Neighbors in colonia La Gloria complain about trailer parked in street attracting alcoholics

The trailer of a foreigner is serving as a refuge for alcoholics in colonia La Gloria, according to neighbors who are requesting intervention from police to dislodge these people with bad habits who are generating uneasiness and concerns for the neighbor children.
Upon learning this information, the reporter observed four people, including a woman, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. They claimed they weren't harming anyone. One person was below the trailer, asleep on a mat.
The trailer has Texas license plates (741 687 J) and is located on Macabí street, at the corner with Facundo Rosado street. Oddly, the owner seems to tolerate this situation.
In addition, that trailer is badly parked because it hinders visibility when one moves from north to south on Facundo Rosado street. In fact a neighbor was nearly run over, because of this, when a vehicle was traveling from east to west on Macabí street .
According to some who were asked about this situation, they all said that the foreigner does not speak Spanish, however they said that someone had translated the demand for relocation, but the request was refused.
The neighbors don't want to get into a controversy in this case, but rather they would prefer that the police authority act in accordance with the regulations, which preserve the image and urbanism.
Many visiting tourists travel through this area, where many foreigners occupy vacation homes. The neighbors in the area, especially the mothers, are concerned about this situation with these people who are occupying the public thoroughfare and are not in their right senses.

The organizing committee of the 15th International Fishing
Tournament "Cosme Alberto Martinez Magaña" confirmed that the event will take place on May 19 and 20. There will be a million pesos in prizes including cash for the winners in first thru sixth place, and scooters for those in seventh to tenth place and surprise prizes for tenth thru twentieth.
The first place winner will receive 350,000 pesos, second place wins a pickup truck, and third takes 100,000 pesos. Fourth place wins 75,000, fifth takes 50,000, and sixth wins 25,000 pesos. More than 130 boats are expected to participate. In previous tournaments, fishermen have come to compete from locations in the north of Mexico, from Yucatan, but especially from the United States. However, obviously, the majority are from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum, Chetumal, among others. (And of course Isla Mujeres!)

Fine dining a few steps away at Da Luisa or try the traditional neighborhood eateries a couple blocks farther. Within ten minutes walk are the restaurants Mango Cafe, Brisas, Manolitos, Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, and the large department store-grocery Chedraui. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk downtown.
