This is the same information that was translated a couple days ago about the general director of APIQRoo, Alicia Ricalde Magana, taking a European investor on a tour of the eastern malecon, behind the Casa de la Cultura, where she proposed that a dock could be build for cruise ships, in addition to the required infrastructure. This project has been proposed for many years.
The Governor has said the state has limited funds for these types of projects due to the large amount of debt left by the previous administration, and therefore private public investors should be sought and encouraged, with the consensus of the people. He said all that needs to be done in order to generate sources of employment is to resort to private-public investments.
Ms. Ricalde Magana explained that she was showing the investor the attractions of Isla Mujeres and what could be done in this holiday destination, as well as the cruise routes that could be provided from the eastern seafront. She explained that this European businessman represents important shipping companies, of both cargo and passengers.
She also explained that this is part of a tour of the entire state, which includes visiting Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, Calica, Mahahual and the state capital, to review the route for the Canal de Zaragoza.

Clean & safe beaches: Thanks to the work of the City

"Every year Isla Mujeres receives approximately 2.4 million tourists, which not only represents a benefit for all citizens, but a duty for those of us in City administration to take care of the image of the municipality to attract more visitors and investors every day," said Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis. He  thanked the departments responsible for the care, cleanliness and security of the island for the great work they carried out this long weekend, when the number of visitors was increased. He spoke about the importance of keeping the beaches and tourist areas clean and safe for residents and visitors and his commitment to this work. He noted that tourism is the largest source of income for island families, and invited the community to participate in keeping the island clean.

"Tattoo" sailboat was first to arrive
El velero “Tattoo”, primero en llegar. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
The sailboat  "Tattoo" led the 49th edition of the Sol al Sol Regatta from beginning to end and arrived at dawn to Isla Mujeres, after 68 hours of  sailing about 600 nautical miles across the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. This does not mean that they have won the tournament until the "corrected Times' are determined, after each boat is evaluated according to its category, and any possible penalties are imposed. That result should be available on Tuesday, but usually the first boat wins the prize.
Tattoo's captain is Glenn Benson, who arrived at 6am, followed by captain Frank Wood in "It's Only Money" two hours later. At 8:30 "My Time" arrived, captained by Nick Carper. At 4pm, "After You" captained by John Gardner was north of Isla Contoy and "Equinox", captained by Brad Ripkey was about 80 kilometers east of Isla Mujeres. (The former came in 1st in Class B and the latter came in 2nd, according to the tracking site....before 'corrected times'.)
The families and the crews have Monday and Tuesday free to relax or visit attractions such as Tulum and Chichen Itza. Wednesday the traditional Captain's Cup will be hosted by the Yacht Club of Isla Mujeres, at the Casa de las Rocas, at 1pm and the basketball game between the sailors and the islanderw will be held at 7pm at the Convention Center. The City Council will officially honor them on Thursday at 7pm at Punta Sur or at the Town Hall, depending on the weather.
The Amigo's Regatta will be held on Friday, with the outstanding students gathering and Buho's restaurant at 10a, going to the boats a half hour later, and departing to sail around the island at noon.  Also on Friday, there will be a farewell cocktail party and awards presentation at Cabanas del Mar at 7pm.

Union celebrates Labor Day

At the Labor Day celebrations, the CROC union leader spoke about the advantages of negotiation for a collective labor contract so that workers, although they receive low wages, may have better benefits such as educational grants and food baskets. Tips continue to be an important source of support for these workers, especially those who perform more specialized jobs, since dishwashers earn a daily income of about 120 pesos and the gratuities for them are low, at best. And they must also spend a portion of their wages for taxi transportation.
There was no parade for the third consecutive year, but a celebration was held from noon to sunset for the members and their families which included gifts for the children, clowns, shows for everyone and raffles for almost all 400 affiliates. The Mayor attended.
Union leader, Román Maldonado Euan, announced they are opening the first Social Services House in the Continental Zone to provide medical services for 2000 workers, and they have plans to install two more in that part of the municipality. The small medical clinic will be open during office hours and half day on Saturdays. Some workers and their families have limited coverage by IMSS, and the IMSS medical staff have been working with them in the workplaces.

According to CONAGUA (National Water Commission) the weather for most of the week should be favorable for navigation by small boats, after several days of restrictions due to winds out of the south-southeast.
On Monday of the long weekend, tourism was normal, and no extra ferry crossings were needed.

Ferry suffered mechanical failure

On Monday, the 10:30am Ultramar ferry had a mechanical breakdown shortly after leaving Isla Mujeres, with about 100 passengers on board. A tow boat arrived in about half an hour, and the passengers were delayed by nearly an hour, which caused complaints from the tourists who were taking flights.
The crew was courteous, and this event was less complicated than the previous breakdown during the Easter holidays, when some passengers became upset about the lack of air conditioning and the attitude of the crew during that breakdown.
