ISLA MUJERES, a 11 de febrero.-
- The municipal president, Juan Carrillo Soberanis, together with residents, conducted a day of cleaning, painting and rehabilitation in the facilities of the park in colonia "La Gloria", as part of the improvement of public spaces of the municipality, so that island families have nice parks.
It is important to recognize the participation of residents, who voluntarily participated with painting, weed removal and pruning in the common areas. Special mention should be given to the children, who accompanied by their parents and helped with these tasks, which fosters the culture of caring for public spaces from childhood.
The Mayor reiterated his commitment to the islanders having decent public spaces where they meet to enjoy time together, to have recreation, and to play sports. He said, "For a better municipality, we work with the three levels of Government so that the island families have clean, comfortable and safe public spaces for a high quality of life. We are very pleased to see that the members of society are involved with this work, because it is the residents who use these spaces every day and it is important that they contribute to their care and be vigilant about their correct usage."
He explained that when the islanders become involved in these tasks, they perceive the parks and public areas as theirs. Finally, the Mayor said that the attention, care and cleanliness of public spaces is part of a permanent program of the present administration, which has been giving attention to them, as is the case of the parks "The Hormiguitas ", “Tortugas” and “Gaviotas”, " to name a few.

The home team "Pescadores" of Isla Mujeres are ready to participate in the State Baseball League
“C.P. Carlos Joaquín González”, at the inauguration this Sunday in Cancun. Baseball officials and City officials met together, and appreciation was expressed for the support by the Mayor.
The Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis attended the presentation of the State Development Plan 2016-2022 and expressed the commitment of the Municipal government to working in coordination with the state administration headed by Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, for the benefit of the islanders.

Some colonias were left without water service for several hours when a contractor hired by Aguakan accidentally broke a pipe.

Traffic congestion

Residents are complaining about traffic congestion that occurs between 10am and 6pm, when more than 2000 vehicles circulate the isle. An interview with the SINTRA representative indicates there are about 800 rental golf carts circulating daily, not 600 as was previously said. There are about 200 taxis, ~1000 scooters, and some 500 private cars.
One of the streets which becomes congested is Matamoros, and the noise generated by the vehicles and the nightlife makes it difficult for residents living there, especially those who are elderly or ill with chronic diseases, who have difficulty sleeping.
It is also noted that the sidewalks of Matamoros are occupied and have whole sections that are not passable, and they are also uneven which makes walking difficult for the elderly

This weekend the Circuit Court (El Tribunal Colegiado de Circuito) set a ten day deadline for the municipal and state governments to begin the distribution of residential and commercial lots in the Continental Zone (on the mainland part of the municipality). This is the result of a legal case by 100 complainants, out of a total of 1715 people who obtained letters of assignment in April 2005 from outgoing former mayor Paulino Adame Torres. Of the 200 hectares that were donated to the former INFOVIR agency in 2007, the state government sold half. The Department of Urban Development and Housing (SEDUVI) of Quintana Roo and the City of Isla Mujeres are now under a deadline to comply with this court order to distribute about 40 hectares.

Fine dining a few steps away at Da Luisa or try the traditional neighborhood eateries a couple blocks farther. Within ten minutes walk are the restaurants Mango Cafe, Bahama Mama, Brisas, Manolitos, Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, and the large department store-grocery Chedraui. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk downtown.

The Artist's Fairs are scheduled weekly on Thursdays at the Casa de Cultura, 4-9 thru April 20.
Yoga at the Casa Cultura on Monday & Wednesday mornings at 9am and Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 6pm. On the back street, Guerrero, at Abasolo.
