ISLA MUJERES, 8 de marzo.-
The Isla Mujeres City government donated 50,000 pesos to the Red Cross at the start of their collection drive yesterday (Monday).  This was preceded by a parade-procession from the Naval base down Rueda Medina, to the Town Square, which started at 4pm.  The Red Cross hopes to raise 170,000 pesos during this drive with help from business owners, merchants, and the general community of Isla Mujeres. This goal is an increase of about twenty percent over last year's collection which was 135,000 pesos, which they expect to accomplish.

The port has been closed since Monday at noon for boats under 40 feet, due to strong southeastern winds, which are expected to continue until Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The partly cloudy skies with scattered showers are forecast to continue until Friday. Despite the weather, the main streets of the island have been busy, and there was no flooding on Hidalgo on Tuesday when it rained. Restaurants and golf cart rental agencies also did a good business, and merchants reported they expect all types of business to increase during the Easter holidays, as usual.
