"Diabetic Clinic" helps 89 islanders

En beneficio de 89 personas

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 21 de septiembre.-

See translation below. Additionally, this article says...With regard to the equipment that is being held at Customs in Cancun, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Red Cross, Jorge Cardenas Bazan, said he is making arrangements with the Customs authorities to release the material that was impounded, and he is working toward assuring that in the future all equipment donated by foreigners will reach the island without any problems.
It is also noted that in addition to high consumption of sugar, high consumption of alcohol is especially harmful for for those at risk for diabetes because insulin is generated in the pancreas, and this adds to its overwork, which can have short term or long term health effects.

Tomorrow: No water while Aguakan works on network

Aguakan recomienda abastecerse ante sustitución de tubería

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 21 de septiembre.-

The Aguakan company is advising the population of Isla Mujeres to be prepared and stock up on water on Monday and Tuesday, because on Wednesday, Sept. 23 the water supply may be interrupted between the hours of 7am and 7pm. Lorenzo Pinzon Sarabia, Aguakan manager in Isla Mujeres, said the interruption in the water supply will affect several areas of Cancun, the mainland area of Isla Mujeres, and the island, while they are working at replacing four kilometers of the network of lines that are 32 inches in diameter. Islanders are advised to be sure their water tanks are full in advance, and to use water moderately during the outage.

Offering better quality of life for diabetics

Ofrecen calidad de vida a diabéticos

0 22 de septiembre de 2015  By Carlos Gasca

Yesterday, the 7th annual edition of the "Diabetes Clinic" was held and was a success. The event,  promoted by Karen Rosenberg,  took place with the help of volunteers from Isla Mujeres and from the United States. It is a goal of the event to help those who suffer with this chronic degenerative disease to have a better quality of life.
Although most of the material that was intended to be given away to diabetic islanders was impounded by SAT (Tax Administration System) and held in a warehouse of the Cancun International Airport, the event successfully helped nearly 90 people. Karen Rosenberg said, "Of the 89 people who were helped at the event, there were 70 who received a free glucometer with enough test strips to last them for six months."  She explained that at the event, they not only provide the donated equipment, they also explained how to use it, and gave information about the disease, about diabetic diets, and how to manage this chronic illness. She said that the disease is compounded by high sugar consumption, poor diet, and too many sugary bottled beverages. Diabetes occurs to people at every level of society, and in younger people, which was evident yesterday when there were five people seen with high blood sugar levels who were under 30 years of age.
The Red Cross extended its sincere thanks to Karen Rosenberg for this selfless work, which takes place every year in spite of the different adversities that arise.  Diabetes is the second leading cause of death in Mexico, after cardiovascular disease. It is estimated that 15% of the population suffers from diabetes, and many do not know it.

Hi all!! We (Isla Animals) are gearing up for a HUGE Spay/Neuter, Vaccination, Wellness campaign for the animals in Rancho Viejo Nov 17-22. This is a very poor area in the municipality of Isla Mujeres. Most are living without electricity and running water. The situation for the animals there is dire right now with parvo & distemper running rampant, and heavy overpopulation. We expect to treat/vaccinate/spay/neuter 1000 cats & dogs with the cost of surgery at just $10us per dog. This may be the only time any of these animals see a vet. We can treat the existing animals, vaccinate others against disease, curb the population growth, and educate pet owners on proper animal care and make a HUGE DIFFERENCE!! We have the knowledge, experience, volunteers, and heart to make it happen. We are asking for all of your help to raise funds to make the campaign a reality. (We can also accept Paypal donations via our site islaanimals.org - just add RANCHO VIEJO in message, and cash in person on Isla Mujeres. Please, please share the link on your social media. It helps us so much. If you are not in a position to donate PLEASE do read the campaign & share, there is lots of excellent info in it about the work we do-There is always so much to do! Thank you for your time! http://www.gofundme.com/isla-animals-rv
