Fallece ahogado

Lanrry PARRA
ISLA MUJERES, 11 de septiembre.-
Mexican tourist Juan Carlos Sanchez Lopez, 29, from the state of Mexico, had gone swimming after drinking some alcohol and eating abundantly, which is thought to have caused cardio-respiratory arrest and death. A lifeguard rescued the lifeless body from the water and took him to the beach for first aid. The Red Cross paramedics tried to revive him, but although he was given first aid, they were not able to prevent his death.
He was accompanied by Karia Arizbeth Sanchez Romero, who is believed to be his cousin, who waited for the arrival of personal from the Ministerio Publico (prosecutors office) to come and take a report of the facts. These two people had been staying in Cancun at the Fiesta Americana Hotel.
Witnesses said the death occurred at 1:20pm and the staff from the Prosecutor's office came at 2:40pm, and then it was at least two more hours before the specialists from Cancun arrived to transport the body there for the required autopsy.

"Recycling Trash for Food" program benefits 150 families in La Gloria

 Con “Reciclando Basura por Alimentos”

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 11 de septiembre.-
The event was held at the central plaza of the sports facility known as The Senior Citizen's dome (del Adulto Mayor) where 20 tons of recyclable materials were collected, including useless appliances. This program by the Governor also gives the opportunity to get rid of  junk that the trash collection trucks don't usually pick up, as well as preventing breeding places for mosquitoes and vermin.
The event included booths providing a wide variety of products from the list of basic goods (Canasta basica), as well as other services such as health care and environmental education about reducing, reusing, and recycling at home. The health services booth was very popular and was screening for diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and vision loss as well as offering nutritional counseling, medical consultations, and basic medications. Other services included free haircuts, legal advice, and informative talks.

Aquatic park at Casa de los Suenos closed for lacking a construction permit

“Casa de los Sueños” se edificó sin licencia de construcción

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 11 de septiembre.-.

The municipal Director of Urban Development said the water park at the hotel Casa de los Suenos was closed after a thorough investigation was conducted of their documentation, which was submitted, and it was discovered that they lack a construction permit, which is required. Therefore, a 'closed' sign was placed for lacking this necessary document. He said the owners will be required to obtain the correct permit and pay a fine. The fine has not been determined and is dependent on the number of square meters of construction.
He said the water park has been operating for approximately two months, under the hotel's license, but this is another type of business.
There have been reports in various media about the construction of this water park since the early part of the year, and on June 1, it was put into operation. There are questions whether the municipal Department of Urban Development and the ZOFEMAT (Federal Zone) officials were aware. It is expected that inspectors from  PROFEPA (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) will review the case and assure that a Environmental Impact Statement (MIA) was done.

Hi all!! We (Isla Animals) are gearing up for a HUGE Spay/Neuter, Vaccination, Wellness campaign for the animals in Rancho Viejo Nov 17-22. This is a very poor area in the municipality of Isla Mujeres. Most are living without electricity and running water. The situation for the animals there is dire right now with parvo & distemper running rampant, and heavy overpopulation. We expect to treat/vaccinate/spay/neuter 1000 cats & dogs with the cost of surgery at just $10us per dog. This may be the only time any of these animals see a vet. We can treat the existing animals, vaccinate others against disease, curb the population growth, and educate pet owners on proper animal care and make a HUGE DIFFERENCE!! We have the knowledge, experience, volunteers, and heart to make it happen. We are asking for all of your help to raise funds to make the campaign a reality. (We can also accept Paypal donations via our site islaanimals.org - just add RANCHO VIEJO in message, and cash in person on Isla Mujeres. Please, please share the link on your social media. It helps us so much. If you are not in a position to donate PLEASE do read the campaign & share, there is lots of excellent info in it about the work we do-There is always so much to do! Thank you for your time! http://www.gofundme.com/isla-animals-rv
