Filing complaint

The new leadership of the cooperative Patria y Progreso has gathered evidence to support the legal complaint they filed against the previous board, which was led by  Luis Fernando Méndez G. Cantón. The new President, Jaime Osorio Sanchez said they need the documents required for filing taxes with the SAT, for marketing fish, and the financial records which should clarify the role of businessman Alvaro Burgos Rios, in the marketing of their products.
The new board has been in office for a month and a half and has the support of the members, who continue working at catching lobster, fish, and sharks. The legal suit is expected to reviewed by a judge by the end of the year.

The season for viewing and swimming with the largest fish in the world will end on September 17th, after four months of activity, which began with a delay in the release of permits and uncertainty about the Management Plan.
There are approximately 300 small boats departing from Isla Mujeres and Lazaro Cardenas daily to transport tourists, mainly for the Maya Riviera and Cancun, to the waters of Aguas Verdes and of Aguas Azules, an area of some 300,000 hectares of sea.
The permit holders say there has been an lack of surveillance by PROFEPA or the Navy to protect and care for this resource. They say there are "pirates" who have no permits, who bring tourists to the area, passing them off as family. One provider complained that commercialization by some tour operators has reduced the prices for operators of the island, but the intermediaries always make their money.
