A fishing boat from the state of Campeche ran aground last night near Punta Sur/ South Point, in the vicinity of the Underwater Sculpture Museum, MUSA, without causing major damage, according to preliminary reports. There are concerns that the "Fipesco 51" could have an oil spill at the time of repair because it has damage near its front bow, and there are reefs about 500 meters from the area where it ran aground.
It is reported that this occurred around 10pm yesterday because the captain of the fishing vessel did not know that the entrance area of the Bay of Isla Mujeres is approached from the area of Punta Norte / North point. Staff from the Naval base in Isla Mujeres arrived on the scene immediately, and the boat remains where it ran aground near Punta Sur.
In the morning the scene was visited by personnel from the Marine Park and agents with PROFEPA, the environmental protection agency Procuraduría Federal de Protección Ambiental. They all agreed that there was no damage to the reef because the boat went aground in a sandy area, about 500 meters from MUSA.
There is an ongoing potential for an oil spill because the fishing boat contains hundreds of gallons of fuel in its tanks. There is a large gap in the hull of the ship, at the bow area and it is fully seated on the seabed. When the incident occurred the boat captain was Bartolo Cruz Pulid.

Asking to apply laws about wages of officials
Piden se aplique ley sobre salario de funcionario[+] Ver mas
The municipalities have until December to prepare their budgets for 2015, which should include the wage rates for the workers and other employees of the municipal government, including the officials. The City Council has been working on a draft, but the figures have not been released. The document then goes to the Legislature for approval. It is asked that the wages be published, and reference is given to Article 22 of la Ley para la Regular las Remuneraciones de los Servidores Públicos de los Poderes y de los Órganos Autónomos de Quintana Roo/ the Law for Regulating Remuneration of Public Servants of the Powers and Autonomous Bodies of Quintana Roo. "The municipalities have until December to prepare their expenditure budgets, in which the salary scale for workers and the people's representatives should be included, which they must do with adherence to the new law regulating wages, in order to prevent abuses in the allocation of the salaries of those who approve the budget and injustice on the poor workers and city employees that really work. Isla Animals campaign for the upcoming November Clinic-Spay-Neuter-Educate
Sally Margolis on FB....
Sally Margolis on FB....
Hi everyone, I just posted a campaign for an Isla Animals
November Spay/Neuter & Education clinic. The only way to make
change is through education of pet
owners and particularly education of the children-and spay/neuter
campaigns. At the last big IA campaign 220 animals were spayed/neutered.
There will be an education station at this clinic and Isla Animals is
also set to go to the schools. Please continue to support an
organization that has made great strides with 15 years of steady service
to the island. And please, please help us share this campaign! Thank
you! "This is Lucky's campaign, let's make it everything it can be." -
