The municipal Director of Culture said it will last for six or seven hours and take place at only one location, the Town Square.
There will be a multidisciplinary cultural caravan which begins with an exhibition of photographs, and the first scheduled activity is a poetry reading called “Matices de Quintana Roo”, "Shades of Quintana Roo", that is scheduled to begin at 5pm. Afterwards, there will be intermission at 7pm for the preparation of the electronic equipment.
The artistic program features a cast of international stature, beginning with a dance and música garífuna, performed by the group "Yura Santo Negro" at 8:30pm No further schedule is given for the evening because the duration of the presentation of these groups depends on the participation of the people and could extend longer than expected.
After the dance performance, the band "Son del Barrio" will play cumbia. This band includes musicians from the
orchestra of Celso Piña. The authentic “Sonora Dinamita” of
Colombia will be the final band, and the main attraction. (They also play cumbia).

Mobile vendors want to return to the beaches after being evicted

The mobile vendors who were removed from the public beaches as part of a reorganization of the urban image by the municipality have filed an amparo (injunction) before the Seventh District Court, with the intention of returning to the beaches. This injunction (1171/2014) from the 28 vendors was sought individually, and not as a group, arguing that the municipal authority claimed they can be arrested a put behind bars, which it says is a lie.
Alleged ministerial and municipal police officers (Policía Ministerial y de la Policía Municipal) have shown that they can stop and impound their belongings and possessions, by order of the mayor and prosecutor (Ministerio Público), but this is false, said the representative of the vendors. When the vendors commit a misdemeanor (commit alguna falta administrativa),, then they can be arrested like anyone else.
If such protection is granted to each of the 28 vendors, it does not establish authorization for them to vend their products on the beach, but it allows them to walk freely on the beaches. However, they could not sell, because then they would be committing a misdemeanor.

Reached 51 cases of decompression

Llegan a 51 los casos de descompresión
0 12 de noviembre de 2014Authorities in Isla Mujeres are concerned because the number of fishermen suffering from decompression continues to rise. Yesterday, Salvador Chavez, 38, of the cooperative "Puerto Juarez", was treated for a Type 2 compression injury. He will need treatment over the next five days to recover fully.According to the personnel operating the hyperbaric chamber, the fisherman dove to a depth of 140 feet, and he spent 45 minutes on the bottom. He experienced numbness in his hips and legs, and was considerably improved when he got out of the chamber after several hours. There have been 51 cases already, and this number is expected to grow because the last months of the lobster season are the busiest. (Lobster season ends March 1)

Since the beginning of the week, the Magana ferry has moved its operation to the concrete pier of the Maritime Terminal of the Port Authority, API Administración Portuaria Integral) in order to provide better service to it customers. Their ticket office will move to the new terminal shortly.
Spokesman for the Magana Ferry company, Jorge Aragon, said there is a proposal to convert the wooden pier where the Magana boats docked for almost fifty years into a museum displaying the history of Isla Mujeres, with a collaboration between the Magana family and the state government & API.
The Magana ferry is currently offering a discount to islanders with a rate of 35 pesos per round trip, with the promotion ending on December 15th. Sr. Aragon said the number of passengers has been lower than previous years in off season, so they decided to implement the promotion.
They are currently offering service every hour, and they are working on bringing back the second vessel in order to return to the original schedule of every half hour, but no date for that was provided.

Isla Animals campaign for the upcoming November Clinic-Spay-Neuter-Educate
Sally Margolis on FB....
Sally Margolis on FB....
Hi everyone, I just posted a campaign for an Isla Animals
November Spay/Neuter & Education clinic. The only way to make
change is through education of pet
owners and particularly education of the children-and spay/neuter
campaigns. At the last big IA campaign 220 animals were spayed/neutered.
There will be an education station at this clinic and Isla Animals is
also set to go to the schools. Please continue to support an
organization that has made great strides with 15 years of steady service
to the island. And please, please help us share this campaign! Thank
you! "This is Lucky's campaign, let's make it everything it can be." -
