Carlos Barranco García, Director of the municipal Department of Ecology and the Environment said that in addition to feeding and providing shelter for animals, it is very important that people collect the feces of their pets and clean the remains of urine in public spaces. The City is conducting a campaign called "Your Pet Your Responsibility" to ensure that everyone is aware about how to care for and treat their pets. He encouraged residents to share this information and thanked them for the acceptance this program has had on social media.

Tourists enjoying this long weekend on the isle

With good weather, many tourists were visiting the island for this long weekend and on Sunday the beaches and businesses were busy with national and foreign visitors. The article mentions the many activities the tourists were enjoying, locations they were visiting,and types of businesses that were providing them with goods and services.It is estimated that the more than 100 massage businesses were busy, that there were more than 100 boats near the buoy lines, and that about 10,000 visitors were transported by the ferries and recreational boats that depart from various points on the mainland including the Hotel Zone, Puerto Juarez, Punta Sam, and Isla Blanca. It is noted that golf carts agencies ran out of inventory before noon.
Golf cart agencies want Mobility Institute to crack down on "pirate" carts

Representatives of the golf cart rental agencies have requested that the Institute of Mobility of Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) punish those responsible for renting "pirate" golf carts in recent weeks. Por Esto says some tourists have claimed that Ultramar personnel have offered them 'pirate' carts.According to the law, only the 830 carts registered to agencies may be rented, and carts must have the proper rental license plates, company logo, and an individual number or they cannot be rented and are subject to being impounded with sanctions. There are about 400 carts on the island that could potentially be rented illegally, according to the agencies. The Revenue Collection office confirmed that there are carts with private plates on the island, but didn't give the total number that are registered.
The new Director of the Mobility Institute for the Northern Zone, Vivian Castillo Dzul, said her office will respond to this request, and work in coordination with other municipal and federal agencies to carry out operations to stop this problem. She recommended that those who own private carts should not rent them for public use because they could be surprised with high fines, but she didn't have the amounts at the moment. She said they are designated in UMAS (units of measurement based on the daily minimum salary) in accordance with the Mobility Law that is about to enter into enforcement.

Within ten minutes walk are a variety of restaurants including Mango Cafe, Brisas, Manolitos, La Chatita, Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, and the large department store-grocery , Chedraui. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk downtown.

On the first Monday of each month, there is usually a civic ceremony in the morning, often on the Town Square.
Fishermen in this region are banned from catching Lobster, Grouper and Octopus in March. Lobsters kept in captivity continue to be available, along with frozen tails. LINK

The parades are Sunday & Monday at 3p from the Naval Base to the
Monument to the Fishermen, so Rueda Medina will be closed. Although the
map doesn't show it, traffic is usually detoured down Juarez & the
section of Hidalgo that is south of the Square (which usually affects
where parking is allowed on Juarez, temporarily.)It says...Due to celebrations for Carnaval 2019 in Isla Mujeres, March 1-5, there will partial, temporary road closures for the performances of the dance troupes.
On March 3 & 4, Rueda Medina will be closed during the parade. Please plan ahead, and thank you for your understanding.

On or around March 4th, there is usually a ceremony commemorating the arrival of Francisco Hernandez Cordoba in 1517, who is credited with discovering the Yucatan and what is now Mexico, after landing on Isla Mujeres. The expedition of 110 men and 3 boats sailed from Cuba and and sailed around the coast, battling with the Maya, until all but one were injured, and over 50 had died.
