Colegio Bachilleres high school received the Green Flag for the second consecutive year
The high school campus is a conservation site for iguanas, and native plants have been replanted like palms, chit, and mangrove. An aviary project is being considered along the shores of the lagoon (salina). These efforts have caused Colegio Bachilleres to be awarded the green flag of PRONATURA for the second consecutive year. Students have also planted four square meters of horticulture, with a conservation plan for about one hectare, with assistance from state and municipal governments.
The Mexican nonprofit organization PRONATURA was started in 1981 by a group of entrepreneurs and academics who are concerned about environmental conservation. The organization works with an international project in schools, "Eco School". The school communities of students, teachers, staff, and parents are encouraged to promote environmental awareness and conduct projects, such as maintaining a feeding area (for the iguanas), continuing to plant native plants, and the possibility of an aviary project. The Eco School international environmental education program operates in more than 58 countries to promote sustainable development and certification of schools who have a high level of commitment to the environment.

As part of the Patriotic celebrations, the municipal government conducted a civic ceremony to commemorate the 192th anniversary of the annexation of Chiapas to Mexico.

Postal service has gone from bad to worse
De mal en peor, el servicio de Sepomex. [+] Ver mas
The president of the business organization CANACO, Juan Carrillo Figueroa, said that since last year there has been a deficiency in the delivery of official notices to entrepreneurs from the Hacienda (Federal Tax agency) and the Social Security agency, and this has worsened in 2016. This has caused small businesses who depend on this method for delivery of information to be charged fines and penalties, when deliveries of notifications are delayed from SHCP (Dept. of Finance and Public Credit) and from IMSS (Mexican Social Security). This affects the small businesses who depend on the postal service and do not use email as an alternative for these monthly and bimonthly notices.
There were once more than half a dozen people working at local SEPOMEX office (Mexican Postal Service), but now there has been only one person.  Two people have been seen at the SEPOMEX offices working with the computer system and the mail area, so it presumed that this month the staff will be extended from two people to three people to fulfill the demands. The person in the office said they were not authorized to issue information.

Caution advised for small boats

The SCT forecast for last evening had advisories for small boats. There was no notice of cancellation of whale shark tours from the Harbor Master, and tours went out on Thursday, as well as the sports fishing tours, diving tours, and others. It was a normal day with recreational activities on land and sea. There were fewer people on the beaches than usual, and many visitors were touring the island in golf carts. The Port Authorities have reported no incidents during the whale shark tours, which are scheduled end on Saturday, Sept. 17.  This morning the whale shark boats went out and some tour boats are returning now, with sunny skies and no whitecaps.

The 9th annual Diabetes Clinic will be November 3rd in La Gloria. We are a team of nurses, social workers, EMT's and paramedics with a doctor for consultation of patients who need to be seen immediately. Please consider donating $50 which would buy 200 test strips, enough for one patient for a year. We also need donations of reading glasses, particularly the higher numbers. Many diabetics have vision problems too. We have a drop off location at Marina Paraiso Hotel or will pick up wherever you are!
