The leader of the Chamber of Commerce in Isla Mujeres, Juan Carrillo Figueroa said this slump occurs every year, and owners cope by having agreements with workers for 'solidarity days' of volunteer vacations so the employer does not have to fire workers. He noted that it is still hurricane season and it is unknown if there will be severe weather before it ends, and that everyone should be prepared.

He had relatives who worked at the pier where the shrimp boats dock, and he began working as a shrimp fisherman over a month ago.
