ISLA MUJERES, 16 de febrero.-
Isla Mujeres is a Pueblo Magico with fine attractions that make it a unique tourist destination, which includes the Fair of Art and Flavor (Feria del Arte y Sabor), which includes products made by local artists, live music, national, regional, and international food stalls, craft beer, (and art by foreign artists). Isla Mujeres is an island with a history of recognized artists, and for this municipal administration it is of utmost importance to continue promoting the new generations of local artists, said the director general of Culture and Arts, who added that in this initiative has the full support of the municipal president, Juan Carrillo Soberanis.
The Feria del Arte & Sabor is held monthly (sic, in high season it's every Thursday), next to the Casa de la Cultura, at Abasolo. This cultural event attracts hundreds of tourists and local residents. Isla Mujeres has the legacy of artists, composers and musicians who have transcended borders, contributing to shape the character and cultural identity of the islanders, which is also reflected in the streets with vibrantly colored murals representing nature and passages of daily life.
Rubén Pérez Martín, Director of the Institute of Culture and Arts, said that on the instructions from the municipal president, various events have been launched in order to promote various artistic and cultural expressions on the Island and in the Continental Zone, such as Feria del Arte y Sabor.

Controversy over increase in Ultramar ferry fares
Revisión de costos de operación de Ultramar [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Former municipal official Arturo Rios Magana wants the city to request that the SCT review the costs of operations in response to a 100 percent increase in fares by Ultramar between Isla Mujeres and Puerto Juarez. This official previously participated in litigation before COFECE (Federal Commission of Economic Competence) which resulted in a million dollar fine against Ultramar. He wants to know if this increase is justified or excessive, which went into force recently for domestic and foreign users of the route between Puerto Juarez and Isla Mujeres.
As previously noted, the first increase occurred before Christmas, which was 22 percent, from 164 to 200 pesos round trip, and then last week it was increased again to 300 pesos, round trip. This amount is equal to the fee between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel which is three times as far, in the open sea, unlike the Bay of Isla Mujeres.
