Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 21 de enero.-

Strong winds and large waves from the recurring cold fronts are accelerating erosion of the beaches at the northern part of the isle, causing concern among among restaurateurs and hoteliers in the area. The erosion has brought down two palapas, and in recent days several coconut palms have been affected.
The effects have been more severe since the geotubes, aka 'whales', have deteriorated, which are located near ChiChis and Playa Islander. At the time the geotubes were first placed, their cost was about 150,000 pesos, but now with the exchange rate declining, the cost could be doubled.
