Free pet sterilization on Thursdays
The City reports that the construction site in front of Colegio Bachilleres was closed due to a lack of permits, and use of heavy machinery in a sensitive area. The Director of Urban Development and the Environment, Jose Nivardo Fernandez Martinez said that an inspection took place on May 24th that indicated the proper procedures for clearing brush were not being carried out, and they were unable to present the appropriate permits, so the closure was carried out. He said, "They were warned that they could not use heavy machinery in that area, which they ignored, so we took action on the matter, in accordance with the law, to close down the construction to maintain the harmony of the environment that is in that area." Turtles are nesting on ten beaches on the east coast of the island and the Director of the Tortugranja, Deline García Canto said that a total of 37 nests have been protected so far this season, with 4340 eggs which were: seven Hawksbill turtle nests with 1017 eggs; seven Green turtle nests with 937 eggs; and 23 Loggerhead nests with 2386 eggs. She said their work begins 15 days before the season starts on May 15, and continues fifteen days after it concludes on October 15th. The protection of the turtles is done by staff and volunteers of the Tortugranja, in coordination with PROFEPA (Federal Agency for Environmental Protection, the Navy, and the municipal police department. Cooperation of the general public, including national and foreign tourists, is requested, and everyone should respect the turtles and their nests, so that they are able complete the process without being disturbed and then return safely to the sea. Investigation continues in gas station robbery LINK
The prosecutor in charge of the case, did not want to elaborate with more details so as not to affect the course of the investigations, but stressed that the case is being investigated. They are following two lines of investigation of the robbery that occurred around 2:30am on June 3, when the amount stolen may have exceeded 320,000 pesos. The two thieves presumably arrived on two motorcycles, but their faces were covered so the employee and his friend were unable to see their faces, After taping the two victims hands feet and faces, the thieves spent an hour and a half removing the safe from the wall, and then they left with it. The employee said there was about 320,000 pesos in cash, from sales on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The prosecutor acknowledged that there have been no arrests so far, and said there has been progress in the investigations.
Construction site closed by Urban Development Department LINK
Following complaints in the media, the Department of Urban Development closed a construction site, with two closure seals, and the backhoe remained inside. Yesterday, it was detected that mangroves were being removed (botoncillo) and some other protected species, and environmental damage was being done to the coastal area along the Caribbean Sea where sea turtles nest. Also, the heavy machinery was moving rubble within a few meters of the seashore.

La Tertulia reports: The "Sha Wellness Clinic" is planning to invest more than 100 million dollars in the first complex it is opening on the American continent, which will be located in the mainland area of the municipality of Isla Mujeres. TV Isla Mujeres reports that the Governor said this project will generate 3000 jobs, directly and indirectly.

A young female motorcycle driver skidded on a greasy substance on the road just before the pedestrian crossing on Jesus Martinez Ross Avenue (prolongacion Aeropuerto), causing her to lose control and fall, resulting in scrapes to one of her knees. She had been traveling from south to north, and after she fell, people nearby assisted her and picked up her scooter, while she sat on the sidewalk to recover from the shock. Her family home was nearby and her mother gave her first aid by cleaning the wound with antiseptic. Since the scooter wasn't damaged, they left the scene without waiting for officials to arrive.
Personnel with Civil Protection & the Firefighters came to the site and cleaned up the greasy substance, which according to witnesses had spilled from a garbage truck shortly before when it was compacting a load of trash, and some of the 'juice' dripped onto the street.
Thirty-five solar lights are being installed along the area from Isla 33 to Punta Sur, however the private company that was hired to do the work broke part of the rock that forms the cliff. along the stretch where there is a hole under the road, due to severe erosion. The Director of Public Works, Fernando Bacelis Godoy said he will take action on the matter to prevent the company's workers from drilling in particularly sensitive areas.

There are plans to combine soccer clubs "Tiburoneros" and "Isla Mujeres", according to Enrique Cauich Bates, who was recently appointed president of the club "Isla Mujeres" and he is also the president of the "Tiburoneros" team. He says they could venture into the third division, and they are looking for three to five players from outside the municipality to strengthen the team.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. In June, fishermen in this region are banned from catching Lobster, Octopus, Shrimp, Conch & Shark Lobsters kept in captivity continue to be available, along with frozen tails. LINK
The baseball games at the El Pescador stadium in front of Chedraui are usually held on Sundays, starting around 1p, when there's a 'home' game. .

Turtle nesting season continues throughout June. The turtles nest along the eastern beaches in the wee hours of the night and Tortugranja staff and volunteers gather the eggs and incubate them in a pen outside the facility. Three species nest annually in Isla Mujeres; Greens, Loggerheads, and Hawksbills, and very rarely, a Leatherback will attempt to nest, but the sand usually isn't deep enough. The sex of the turtles is determined by the temperature of the sand, which is common in reptiles.

Whale shark tour season continues throughout June, ending in mid-September.
Saturday June 1 & Sunday June 2: "Dry Law" is in effect for 48 hours, from the first minute on Saturday (00:00, just after Friday midnight) until midnight on Sunday (24:00) when "To Go" (package) sales of alcohol is prohibited. Foreigners in tourism areas, such as Isla Mujeres, may purchase alcoholic beverages, with food, at bars & restaurants. Citizens can't buy alcohol & businesses such as convenience stores cannot sell it.
Saturday, June 1 Clean Up with Accion Isla 8a-10a Meet up north of the gas station
Saturday, June 1st Dia de la Marina. Events begin with a 5 kilometer race in men's and women's divisions, and another for teens and children, starting in front of Playa Centro at 7am and 8am, with more than 17,000 pesos in cash prizes. Limited to 150 runners in the 5k, and 150 in the youth and children's event.
The official ceremony for National Dia de la Marina will take place at 11am, with a procession of boats in the Bay and placing of a wreath.
On Playa Centro, a beach soccer tournament will start at 11am, with teams of eight people and prizes of 3000, 2000, and 1000 pesos. It will be followed by a beach volleyball tournament at 1pm with teams of two men & two women competing for prizes of 3000, 2000, and 1000 pesos.The festivities will come to a close at 2p, with a Palo Encebado contest.
