The municipal Director of Ecology, Carlos Barranco Garcia, said they are investigating the poisoning of three dogs and five cats, one of which was transferred to the veterinarian for laboratory tests to determine the type of poison that was used. These results should be available Tuesday or Wednesday. Meanwhile, an investigation is being carried out, under the responsibility of Jose Gonzalez, with the intention of addressing the citizen's complaints regarding poisoned pets.
In addition to this, he said that the municipal Ecology Department is making a document that will be delivered to the stores where these types of substances, such as rat poison, are sold, with the intention of controlling their sale and knowing who is acquiring them and how they are being distributed.
He said the poisonings occurred in the colonias of El Cañotal and Miraflores, but not in colonia la Gloria. He reiterated that they are trying to find the person responsible and will apply the Animal Welfare Law which is already in effect, so that the Public Ministry can take action in the matter.

After almost six years of disuse, the Tourist Locator System in Isla Mujeres, called "Guest Locator" will be revived for use during the hurricane season. A course about this project will be taught on Tuesday at 5pm at the Bahia Chac Chi Hotel on Rueda Medina Avenue. It will be taught by the Department of Tourism (SEDETUR) and will focus on the operation of the Tourist Location System throughout the state, including the municipality of Isla Mujeres, and is aimed at all the hoteliers in the municipality.
This program was implemented more than 10 years ago and was put into operation during hurricane Wilma, with great success. Officials of the Municipal Tourism Department were able to contact tourists and ask them whether they were staying on the island or if they would be able to leave. During the operation of this program, dozens of tourists made the decision to remain on the island, arguing that they wanted to experience a hurricane.

This has the same information as the DQR article, and notes that some pet owners who normally leave their animals in the streets for long periods of time are now trying to keep them inside, while others don't seem to care. On Monday evening, there were still dogs wandering in the street, including in the area of the "Audomaro Magana" market in colonia Cañotal, which is one of the places where the deaths occurred.

An indigent man between the ages of 30 and 35, was found dead near the Caribbean Sea, which is presumed to be associated with drinking alcoholic beverages. An autopsy will determine if this is correct. A call was received at 911 and the Red Cross paramedics and police went to the scene, but the individual had no vital signs, so they covered the body and waited for the officials to come an remove the body. Officers with Public Security and with the Ministerial Police cordoned off the area. At first curious passersby thought it was a landing by Cubans, but then noticed there was no boat and immediately knew it was something else. While the officers waited for the officials waited for the specialists from the Vicefiscalía, a pair of women approached the caution tape and was allowed to enter while the other waited outside. The officers lifted the sheet that covered the body, and she breathed a sigh of relief that it was not the person she suspected it might be.
Significant growth in tourism
Importante crecimiento turístico.. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Increased tourism growth is expected to continue during the summer holiday season at a similar pace as the first half of the year, when it grew between 13 and 16 percent, compared to last year. The Mayor was interviewed at the Blue Flag raising event, and much of the information is the same as in that article above.
The Mayor was asked about the debt owned to the municipality of Isla Mujeres by the municipality of Benito Juarez (Cancun) for use of the landfill, which is located in the Isla Mujeres municipality. He said, ""There has been no response from Benito Juárez, and we are pushing for a dialogue. If there is no response, we will take legal action, regarding this debt of more than seven million pesos. I have talked with Remberto Estrada and he seems willing to cover the debt, but it is a matter of organizing."
Trash will increase during the summer
Aumentará la basura este verano[+] Ver masFull article at this link
A 30% increase in trash is expected during the summer holiday season, according to the Director of Public Services, Jose Guadalupe Rios Chale. He said that they have removed more than 11,000 tons of trash that has accumulated at the Trash Transfer Facility, where there is now about 1400 tons of garbage.
He acknowledged that the collection service has been deficient in the last few days, because when they were doing maintenance on the trash collection vehicles, they realized that some of them required major repairs. He asked for cooperation from the community to not leave bags of trash out by the street after the truck has already passed by, because this contributes to creating a bad image of the island. He mentioned that the marinas in Makax lagoon generate great amounts of trash because of the boats at their docks.
He replied to a question with reassurances that the system won't collapse during the upcoming summer high season, because there are extra vehicles to ensure that the collections services continue. He said that despite limitations, the staff is working tirelessly and on Tuesday they had an extra truck collecting.
They are also focusing on picking up junk and he said that anyone with old furniture, refrigerators, mattresses or other objects that are not longer useful, can call 2741661 and staff with the Department of Ecology will pick the items up at no cost.
He said there are between 1300 and 1400 tons of trash at the Transfer Facility, and they have removed more than 11,000 tons so far, but there are reasons they have not been able to achieve their goals, because they are dependent on the weather and amount of space on the ferry, among other reasons. He said in the last two months two new vehicles were obtained thru a federal program including a 'recolector' for the island and a compactor for the Continental Zone.
