Isla Mujeres is a world-class tourist destination; therefore the administration, headed by the municipal president Juan Carrillo Soberanis, has been working in coordination with the Federal Maritime Zone agency (ZOFEMAT) to keep the beaches clean and in optimal condition for the enjoyment of the visitors.       The Mayor said, "Our beaches are recognized for their quality. It is very important that we as a government work in a coordinated manner with the corresponding agencies to ensure that this is maintained."      In this sense, he said he is committed to supporting the tourist and economic development of the municipality, therefore he works closely with ZOFEMAT, the Public Services Department, and the Public Works Department to maintain the quality of this tourist destination and its services.        The Mayor said that thanks to this work, Isla Mujeres has been recognized with the "White Flag" and "Blue Flag" designations, which are awarded to beaches that meet certain standards of quality, safety and cleanliness, and are recognized internationally.      The mayor said that with the start of the holiday season, security in the municipality has been strengthened to ensure that visitors enjoy a stay without mishaps.           It should be noted that during the first half of the year there was a 15% increase the number of tourists arriving, compared to the previous year, which generates benefits to the economic development of the island and improves the economy of families.

SIDESOL: There's no money to pay the debt to Isla Mujeres
http://www.tvislamujeres.com.mx/no-hay-dinero-para-poder-s…/

The neighboring municipality of Benito Juárez says that it does not have funds to pay off the debt it owes to the City of Isla Mujeres.

The head of  SIRESOL, Pablo Lemmen Meyer, said the municipality of Benito Juarez doesn't  have the resources to pay the debt that has been accruing for two years with the neighboring municipality of Isla Mujeres, for the use of the landfill.
He said that SIRESOL does not have an annual budget for the payment of this money to the island municipality. He acknowledged that the debt has increased due to not complying with the agreement to pay 200,000 month. which was signed during the administration of  Cancun mayor Julián Ricalde Magaña.
He said, "There would have to be a renegotiation between the Mayors in order to cover the debt but we have to give a start, (?que dar una partida)  because there SIRESOL has no budget to pay the debt."
It is noted that Isla Mujeres transports 70 to 90 tons of trash daily to the landfill.  The two administrations made an agreement, which established SIRESOL, regarding the landfill in the Continental Zone, which hasn't been paid and has accumulated into a large debt.

Parking
The director of Traffic, José Carlos Pech Pat, supervised the placement of road signs downtown at Juarez avenue and  Nicolás Bravo street, in order to maintain vehicular order in Isla Mujeres now that high tourist season is about to begin.  Curbs were painted to carry out the rearrangement of the public parking spaces,. These works were done in response to citizen requests. It was announced that the parking area of the Casa de la Cultura will be enabled as a public parking lot.       Pech Pat pointed out that this work will continue throughout the island and later in the Continental Zone.  He said the safety measures being carried out during this holiday season will include maintaining the breathalyzer program, which guarantees a low rate of accidents for the benefit of the citizenry.

This is another article about the hoteliers complaints regarding the change that happened in 2012 when the Isla Mujeres tourism promotion agency (Fideicomiso de Promoción) was closed down and its responsibilities were turned over to the OVC (Office of Visitors and Conventions in Cancun). The hoteliers also want an accounting of spending of the IAH hotel tax and for that money to be under the control of Isla Mujeres, and not Cancun.
