According to the Integral Port Authority of Quintana Roo (APIQRoo) the Isla Mujeres Maritime Terminal registered a movement of 2, 372,299 passengers in the first half of the year, which is 11.6% more than the 2,126,137 visitors reported during the first six months of last year. (Note: "Movements" is different than "arrivals" & apparently is the total of passengers arriving plus passengers departing.)
In the first half of this year, APIQRoo registered a movement of 7,402,359 passengers at the maritime terminals of Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Juarez, Isla Mujeres, Punta Sam and Chetumal, which represented an increase of 17.1% in relation to the same period of 2016.

Tourist catches thief
TVIM reports that Mexican tourist Julio Cesar Patiño Chaires was at one of the busy beaches at the northern part of the island when his belongings were stolen while he bought snacks for his daughters. He spoke to the hotel employees, and learned who might have stolen his things, by hiding the suitcase under a towel. With information about the make of the vehicle and license plates, he got into a taxi and began pursuit until they arrived at colonia Guadalupania ("la Invasion") with the municipal police.
The tourist identified the vehicle, whose owner denied the accusations at first, but in the end he acknowledged having stolen the possessions, which included cash, clothes, and two cell phones.
The detainee, Adami Z.P.C, 33, who works as a waiter, was taken to the Prosecutor's office (la Fiscalía), and it is suspected that he may be linked to other thefts on the same beach.

Urban transport is needed
Necesario el transporte urbano [+] Ver masFull article at this link
The lack of urban transport service since 15 months ago is causing many workers to arrive late to work because taxi drivers prefer to pick up tourists, especially since the start of the summer holiday period. Those who suffer the most are families who try to go to the beach or to travel from one colonia to another to visit their friends, as well as those who go to shop in supermarkets. As a consequence of this, you can see women and children on foot walking long ways to and from the colonias to the beaches.
Also, those who arrive by boat have to deal with long lines at the taxi stand, waiting to be taken to their home, or in the case of visitors, to their hotels. There are certain times when taxis are especially scarce, such as shift change. Mrs. Eloisa Tun, who suffers on her return home in the intense heat after cleaning houses, says urban transport is needed. She and other residents want the Mayor and City Council members to attend to this need.
There was a proposal to create a paramunicipal company with an investment of two million pesos for a fleet of three minibuses, but this has not progressed, nor has the suggestion to use the two DIF buses to alleviate the situation.

It is estimated that there are about 25 streetlights in need of attention, and the weeds by the side of the street make walking more difficult and risky, as well as the manner in which some of the taxi drivers drive. It is also noted that the streetlights are about 100 meters apart.

Assistance for Isla Mujeres
Concretan apoyos para IM [+] Ver masFull article at this link
The National Family Integration Development System (DIF) announced that it will support two institutions in Isla Mujeres to assist people with limited resources in terms of health, according to an agreement reached at a meeting in Mexico City. The support from the national DIF will improve the work already carried out in Isla Mujeres through various agencies, such as the Center for Attention to Domestic Violence (CAVI), which requires special additions (?aditamentos), furniture and equipment in order to improve the quality of services.
An agreement was reached for the implementation of more assistance programs in the municipality, including the delivery of 70 wheelchairs, surgeries and medical treatments, hearing implants, and corneal surgeries.
