Members of the association "Nueva Tierra", whose president is Baltazar Gomez Catzin, want another meeting with the CORETT delegate (Commission for the 'Regularization" (deeding) of Land Tenure), Adrianao Trejo Encinas. They say at the last meeting in June they were told that titles would be delivered following the election, because at that time they were under the period of the Electoral Ban on activities such as this. The land is located in the Continental area of the municipality.

Initiation of the activities for the 166th Anniversary of the Founding of Isla Mujeres
INICIARON LAS ACTIVIDADES POR EL 166 ANIVERSARIO DE LA FUNDACIÓN DE ISLA MUJERES.
Isla Fest has begun, celebrating the 166th anniversary of the founding of the town, & continues thru Sunday, Aug 21. There are four exhibitions at the Casa de Cultura featuring the history of the island, as well as everyday life and tourism. There is an interesting exposition about the history and art of Fishing, and an exhibition of historical documents, including a copy of the population census of Isla Mujeres in 1866. There are 20 photographs by Tony Garcia, who plans to be there today, and a "Memories" exhibition by Pedro Vazquez, a Cuban artist.
Tomorrow a wreath will be placed to commemorate the anniversary of the Cross in the Bay. Other events include coronation of the queen (tomorrow), historical & poetry presentations (18th), musical performances (19 & 20th); a 15K race (19th), and a Dance Festival on Sunday. The five food trucks from Merida are open nightly behind the Casa de Cultura thru Friday & Isla Brewing will be there Thursday & Friday. Participants from the Artist Fairs are invited to set up tables Aug. 17-21.

On Monday, the port was closed for navigation by small boats on the open seas due to strong winds from the south and waves of two meters. This cancelled the whale shark tours for the second day, but the small boats were allowed to navigate around the bay. The port may be opened for general activities by small boats on Tuesday, depending on the weather.
The effects of Tropical Wave 22 could be felt in the area on Wednesday and Thursday, according to forecasts by the SCT (Ministry of Communications and Transport). There are three tropical waves being monitored, with the most concerning one located in the Eastern Atlantic.

August 15 Following the effects of Tropical Wave 21, tourism resumed on the island on Monday, and there was a good deal of vehicular traffic around the island. Although the port was closed for small boats to go out into the open sea, activity in the bay and near the island resumed.
A "saldo blanco" (no incidents") continues for the holiday period, and there were many tourists touring the island in golf carts. The tourism office reported that tourism has been good throughout the holiday season, with a brief 'dip' with the threat of Hurricane Earl. The last week is expected to be good and includes the festival for the 166th anniversary of the founding of the town, with attractive cultural activities for visitors and locals, alike.

Rain showers on Sunday from Tropical Wave 21 had a negative effect on tourism and the economy of the island. There was some puddling in the usual areas, but there was no problem with the salina lakes, whose levels can handle more rainfall before the pumps would be needed.

Aug. 14 The port was closed for all boats under 40 feet and for all recreational boating activities. Boats under 40 feet feet could not go on whale shark tours and the fishermen could not go out hunting lobster and other seafood. At 8am on Sunday the sky was completely overcast, with increasing winds from the south-southeast which were expected to generate increasing waves, and with forecasts for rain, due to Tropical Wave 21.

Stroll five minutes southward down the coastal sidewalk to Mango Cafe, Bahama Mama, Brisas, or Manolitos. Walk less than 10 minutes southwest to shop at Chedraui or to dine at Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, or other options. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. One of the performers for Isla Fest is Astrid Hadad, who sports some amazing costumes in her performances. Her Wikipedia page says" ...no one since has stuffed all of Mexican political and cultural history into a dress and laced it up with a feminist attitude quite like Ms. Hadad. In a way, one could say that Hadad’s wild cabaret is a little like a Frida Kahlo painting come to life. Like Frida, she draws from the rich motherlode of images offered up by Mexican history and culture: Catholic saints, Aztec and Mayan iconography, revolutionary heroes, exuberant flowers and plants, campesino and indigenous folk art, the golden era of Mexican cinema and so on. Hadad has absorbed this inheritance of a uniquely Mexican and female surrealism and created her own surrealist cabaret that pulses with campy humor and irony."
