Wind blew off several zinc sheets
Se desprenden láminas de zinc por viento.. [+] Ver mas
On Tuesday evening, when there were strong winds, several tin sheets blew off the perimeter fence of what was once a hotel along the eastern malecon. Residents want Civil Protection to intervene because they are concerned that strong winds could remove the other sheets, which could put people at risk in the esplanade of the Casa de Cultura.
This occurred when there were winds recorded of 70 kph on Tuesday at 7pm, and the sheets of zinc blew loose, including the wood attached to them. They are located along the perimeter of the property where the Hotel Perla was once located, along the seawall and near Madero Avenue. A resident said, "The use of this type of material should be prohibited in this area, because there are strong winds during this season."
The strong, sudden gusts of wind caused alarm in other parts of the island when objects were blown from roofs that had not been cleared away, while at this time of year it is known that objects and lumber can become projectiles. Civil Protection makes recommendations regularly at this time of year, advising residents to clear these things away, which are often left out by people after or during construction and expansion of their homes.
The "flimsy" homes of Guadalupana held up to these gusts of wind. More strong winds could occur on Wednesday afternoon, when the arrival of Hurricane Earl is expected in the (nearby) area.

Trash problems downtown

With thousands of tourists visiting the island daily, recently there has been trash left out awaiting collection for hours, or occasionally for two days. This has also occurred in the colonias and is attributed to the small size of the current trash collection vehicles.

Many small boats moved ashore

There is an attitude about being prepared among boat owners in Isla Mujeres, after some learned hard lessons during Hurricanes Gilberto (1988) and Wilma (2005). Many small boats were placed ashore to prevent potential damage during the incoming storm.
Hundreds of people whose livelihoods are associated with nautical activities were off work, and hoping that the effects of this storm would pass by, and that activities will return to normal on Friday. Although there were no strong winds along the northern coasts or in the Yucatan Channel, caution is preferable for safety reasons.

Caused concern among tourists needlessly

With the port closed for small boats on Wednesday due to the possible effects of Hurricane Earl, there was little tourism on the island, and fewer people were seen on the beaches and at recreational areas on the Bay. The SCT report at 4p recommended the continuation of these restrictions on Wednesday evening and night, and possible early on Thursday. Bands of clouds are located in the northwestern Caribbean Sea, associated with the storm in the southern region of Quintana Roo, which could cause squalls, with sudden increases in winds and waves, and heavy rains.
The Federal Electrical Commission (CFE) has maintenance work scheduled for Thursday, which would cause the suspension of service from 8:30-12:30 along several blocks of Lizeta street in colonia La Gloria, according to a leaflet which was distributed on Monday.

One of the performers for Isla Fest is Astrid Hadad, who sports some amazing costumes in her performances. Her Wikipedia page says" ...no one since has stuffed all of Mexican political and cultural history into a dress and laced it up with a feminist attitude quite like Ms. Hadad. In a way, one could say that Hadad’s wild cabaret is a little like a Frida Kahlo painting come to life. Like Frida, she draws from the rich motherlode of images offered up by Mexican history and culture: Catholic saints, Aztec and Mayan iconography, revolutionary heroes, exuberant flowers and plants, campesino and indigenous folk art, the golden era of Mexican cinema and so on. Hadad has absorbed this inheritance of a uniquely Mexican and female surrealism and created her own surrealist cabaret that pulses with campy humor and irony."
