Increasing rate of population growth expected in upcoming years
Vislumbran elevado crecimiento poblacional
Para los próximos años, en Isla Mujeres

ISLA MUJERES, 10 de agosto.-
ISLA MUJERES, 10 de agosto.-
Isla Mujeres could become the third most populous municipality (in the state of Quintana Roo) in upcoming years, after Solidaridad (where Playa del Carmen is located) and Benito Juarez, (where Cancun is located). This is attributed to to the anticipated exponential growth in the continental area of the municipality of Isla Mujeres..
According to the Programa Institucional de Población 2011-2015, Isla Mujeres had a growth rate of 3.54 percent, with a population of 16,840 in 2011, which increased to 19,495 in 2015. Meanwhile, Benito Juarez is in first place with a growth rate of 4.49 percent, with its population increasing from 680,841 in 2011, to 743,626 in 2015.
Currently Isla Mujeres is the least populated municipality in the state...see graphic below.
Personnel with the Isla Mujeres municipal government on the mainland explained that population growth in our municipality will be due to the growth of urban sprawl from Cancun on that side, and because the Hotel Zone of Chamuchuc has been reactivated. In addition, there is growth to the municipality because investments are being made in the area from Punta Sam to the north.

"Saldo Blanco" (no incidents) during summer vacation
Se mantiene saldo blando en las vacaciones [+] Ver masfull article & photo at this link
August 10 The crews of the dozens of boats visiting the waters of Isla Mujeres have taken adequate precautions and there have been no incidents this far in the summer holiday season. A representative of a travel agency, who monitors their customer service, said that one of the attractions of visiting Isla Mujeres is that people say they are not disappointed and the service providers are trained to provide good service. They enjoy the waters and beaches of the island, and there is respect for the efforts of the authorities to prevent accidents.
Regarding the lifeguards who monitor the beaches, some of them have had to intervene to rescue and assist various tourists who try to move beyond the buoy line or out of the usual swimming areas. They explained that while there North Beach and Playa Centro are known for having very little current, there are some areas at the ends of the channel where the strength of the sea can be felt, and there are people who do not swim well, who are tired, and who become worried when they feel the current.
The Civil Protection agency, and the Committee installed for this purpose, have had no problems with their plans to maintain a "Saldo Blanco", with full coordination of agencies at all three levels of government, including institutions like the Mexican Navy and the Red Cross.

One of the performers for Isla Fest is Astrid Hadad, who sports some amazing costumes in her performances. Her Wikipedia page says" ...no one since has stuffed all of Mexican political and cultural history into a dress and laced it up with a feminist attitude quite like Ms. Hadad. In a way, one could say that Hadad’s wild cabaret is a little like a Frida Kahlo painting come to life. Like Frida, she draws from the rich motherlode of images offered up by Mexican history and culture: Catholic saints, Aztec and Mayan iconography, revolutionary heroes, exuberant flowers and plants, campesino and indigenous folk art, the golden era of Mexican cinema and so on. Hadad has absorbed this inheritance of a uniquely Mexican and female surrealism and created her own surrealist cabaret that pulses with campy humor and irony."
