ISLA MUJERES, 7 de febrero.-
On Saturday, young Islander Aldair Dávila Baeza passed the third audition for the reality show for singers and is just waiting for notification from Televisa to join the cast of the program which is broadcast on Sundays. He said on Facebook, "After leaving Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, to follow my dream, I am very pleased today to be in the top 150 in Mexico, having passed three audition levels and remaining in the competition and awaiting the callback." In response he received dozens of messages of support and responded "Many thanks to everyone who has shown kindness and given me support."

ISLA MUJERES, 7 de febrero.-

In compliance with the guidelines of SESA (State Health Department) and the instructions from Mayor Agapito Magana Sanchez to maintain a healthy environment that is free of mosquitoes and their larvae, the municipal Health Department of Isla Mujeres is conducing spraying campaigns throughout the municipality. Employees of the City and of the State Health Department's Vector's agency are working daily, in a coordinated manner, to spray all the corners of the municipality, including those that are more remote or inaccessible. Tharin Vital Casquie explained that the goal is to eliminate the presence of the mosquito which transmits viral diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and now zika, which could be the most harmful. It is important to have  committed participation by the inhabitants of the three regions of the municipality by keeping yards as clean as possible at homes, schools, public areas, and other buildings & nearby areas.
As part of the previously established strategy, health workers are sent daily to critical areas to kill mosquitoes and their larvae with chemicals that only kill these mosquitoes and their larvae which can transmit tropical diseases.
The program "City Government in Your Colonia" has been conducting clean up campaigns which involve the participation of city employees and department directors, doing intensive cleaning and renovations at public spaces such as parks, sports domes, walking paths, landscaped areas, and public buildings. This program of solidarity is an initiative of the Mayor which includes participation by everyone in the City government.
Another example of activities to help the environment was the recent clean up day in the mangrove areas which was coordinated by the Department of Ecology, as part of the commemoration for World Wetlands Day, which celebrates these vital and essential plants which provide humans with many benefits and protections.
Agapito Magana said, "We know that the work of cleaning up is not done in a day or a week, but is an ongoing task that requires the commitment of people to maintain and to clean their immediate environment, making progress for health and hygiene."

Considering a reduction of the seasonal ban on grouper

Fishermen present alternate proposal

Pescadores presentarán propuesta

ISLA MUJERES, 7 de febrero.-
There will be a meeting on Monday with the representative of the state Fishing Department, Manuel Cardenas Magana, to obtain more definitive information about the subject of reducing the closed season for catching grouper. In 2016, it was extended for two months, from Feb. 1 to March 31, while previously it had been one month, from Feb. 15 to March 15.
There are complaints about this from fishermen, and reduction of the ban season will be discussed on Monday, said the president of the state Fishing Cooperatives organization for Quintana Roo, Baltazar Gomez Catzin. If a reduction is granted the ban could be reduced by 15 days; lasting from February 1 to March 15 in upcoming years.
Meanwhile, it is noted that this year in the state of Yucatan the ban is only a month and a half, and not the two months as has been established by CONAPESCA.
