The Navy Search & Rescue unit assisted three Mexican men who were adrift in a small boat 55 nautical miles from Cabo Catoche. (That's between here and Holbox, within the municipality of Isla Mujeres.)
The Mexican Navy-Armada, as the National Maritime Authority and Coast Guard, said that this action was carried out when a distress call was received indicating that three men of: 46, 27 and 25 years of age respectively , had sailed from Puerto Juarez Quintana Roo, on Thursday, August 3, aboard a small boat and that nothing was known about them since then, therefore the Naval Search and Rescue unit of this Naval Command was immediately activated. A "Defender" vessel was deployed to carry out the search and rescue. When they arrived at the indicated area, they met with the ship "Oso Polar", which flies a Mexican flag, who initially gave them assistance.
The three men were transported to the Naval pier and received by staff with the Isla Mujeres Harbor Master's office, to carry out the required procedures, and by their relatives. The Navy was fulfilling its commitment to safeguard human lives at sea.
