Whale Sharks
It is a great privilege for #IslaMujeres to be visited by the whale sharks, since they travel up to 13 thousand kilometers to arrive at our waters. Let us take advantage of the wonderful experience of living close to them with respect and care.
Attractions such as the Whale Shark tours allow #IslaMujeres to attract the attention of world tourism, as it represents an added value for our # Pueblo Magico.
Whale sharks are the biggest fish in the world. They can grow to 15 meters in length. (50 feet). Every year, from May to September, they can be observed near Isla Mujeres. The Whale Shark Festival is celebrated in Isla Mujeres annually, offering various activities to provide information about the importance of the conservation of this fish. (There is a video of whale sharks)

World Day Against Hepatitis offers us the opportunity to take action to prevent and eradicate this disease. We invite you to attend the talks that the Department of Health has prepared for all the islanders.

Suspected beach thief has one foot out of jail
http://www.tvislamujeres.com.mx/presunto-ladron-de-playas-…/

The situation has turned around 180 degrees concerning the suspect who was arrested and put in jail for allegedly stealing a tourist's possessions at the beach Thursday. The prosecutors confirmed that the victim came in, with the municipal police, but when it was explained to the tourist that his belongings would have to be kept under the protection of the prosecution, he decided not to continue with the complaint and that he'd rather take his possessions and leave the island than getting tied up in red tape. This changed the fate of the suspect who would now only be held for 36 hours, as established by law. It was not known if the judge would impose some sanction in addition to those 36 hours, which would be completed after midnight on Friday.
It is recalled that Adami Z.P.C., a 33-year-old waiter was arrested yesterday in the area of colonia Guadalupana (aka "La Invasion ") after being pointed out by Julio Cesar Patiño Chaires, a tourist from Pozarica, Veracruz, who chased the suspect in a taxi and called the police.  At first he intended to proceed and file a complaint with the prosecutors, but he changed his mind when he learned this would involve leaving all his belongings, including his cash. Indications are that the tourist came to vacation for only a few hours, and declined to spent the few hours he had in the middle of an investigation, so he opted to take his possessions and leave the island.
It is known that there have been several thefts in the area of the beaches, but the majority of victims are tourists who just came for the afternoon, so there are often no consequences. Now this detainee, who has confessed and handed over the belongings, is prepared to leave the prison after spending a day and a half in jail.

Giving up the Federal Zone
Desalojan zona federal . [+] Ver masFull article at this link

The members of the fishing cooperative "Por la Justicia Social" agreed to voluntarily vacate the area of Federal Zone, including the building and everything, which they had occupied since the 1980's. They held a meeting on Thursday afternoon whose main issue was the notification that the Sociedad Mercantil Inmobiliaria Ameyaltzin S. A de C. V.  was ready to move in. Notice was given to advise the members about the impending eviction from the property, which that company now needs to use.
Baltazar Gómez Catzin, (aka "Chayo") president of the cooperative,  explained that there is no problem with the concession, that they voluntarily renounced their rights, and are planning to deliver the facilities without any conflict between the parties involved.
He said, "We are aware that we ceded the property and that we must deliver it with all facilities as soon as possible. At a meeting of the cooperative members, the conditions were explained under which the cooperative operates and its transfer to another site, by the Makax lagoon. That company is the new concessionaire of the federal zone, of little more than 900 square meters, which is located on the avenue Rueda Medina, in front of the Harbor Master. We have a harmonious agreement with the Sociedad Mercantil Inmobiliaria Ameyaltzin S. A de C. V."
It appears that the company has made accommodations for the cooperative, allowing the fishermen to continue working during the remainder of this lobster catching season, on part of the property and letting them use the pier to bring in their catches, while the company continues their remodeling work.

Indignation

This has the same information as the TVIM article, noting that the tourist didn't file a complaint due to a lack of time, and that his returned possessions included cell phones, an electronic tablet, cash and personal items in a backpack. It says the alleged thief had fled in a white Corsa car. The news of his impending release has caused indignation on social networks, and where it is said that something needs to be done to prevent future cases of theft, which damage the image of this destination.

Giving recognition to Red Cross benefactors
Dan reconocimiento a sus benefactores[+] Ver masFull article at this link
The board of the municipal Red Cross delegation has begun giving plaques to their benefactors, said Filipe Bierman, president of the organization. The first plaque was delivered to Zoetry at Hotel Villa Rolandi Isla Mujeres in Sac-bajo. On Thursday it will be given to a family from Chiapas, and next week, to the municipal government.  It is hoped that new forms of motivation will expand the number of benefactors in order to acquire financing for the services provided by the Red Cross. They hope to raise awareness about the need to contribute to this good cause, which works to save lives and provides care to those in need on the public roads and at public and private sites.
These plaques will be displayed in public areas of hotels and other businesses who are benefactors.
