On Saturday, the XII edition  (sic...XVII) of the boat procession to Isla Contoy for Our Lady of Charity is expected to begin as scheduled at 9:00 am, according to Isla Mujeres Harbor Master Ismael Gonzalez Gil. He said excellent weather is expected with forecasts of partly cloudy skies.
More than 100 boats have confirmed their plans to participate, including fishing boats and tour boats. This is the only day of the year when Isla Contoy is open for access by all vessels. The participants will attend a Mass at the chapel before returning to Isla Mujeres.
The Director of Fishing in Isla Mujrees, Humberto Moguel said that they are expecting about 1500 people aboard over 140 boats.  Like every year, there will be a procession by foot from the Church of Immaculate Conception to the concrete pier, where the boats will await, including a boat from Ultramar. Last year there were about 120 boats and about 900 people.

A low pressure system between Cuba and Florida could cause rain on the Yucatan peninsula on Sunday, and is being monitored for its potential to evolve into a storm. There is another system in the Lesser Antilles, and a third in the central Atlantic, which is heading north and could enter the Caribbean sea next week. Tropical wave 27 is located in the central region of the Yucatan. (There are links below the events section for storm and weather information in English. Currently, at noon, the sea is calm under sunny blue skies with a few clouds, mostly on the horizon. )

North Beach restaurateurs want to expel the boat "Marbella", which they say has created unfair competition by providing food and drink to the dozens of boats parked off shore, and to tourists. They presented a petition of protest to the three levels of government, and now they have created a navigation channel so that they may provide food and drinks to the boaters.

Into Dry Dock
The weekend the vehicle ferry "Isla Blanca" will travel to Ciudad del Carmen in Campeche to receive maintenance, and will be gone for a month. Service between Isla Mujeres and Punta Sam will be provided by the boat "Sergio Aguilar Gracia", and the schedule won't change. More than 6 million pesos will be invested in maintenance and repairs, which includes painting, changing plates, installation of new zinc anodes, and changing the principal motor.

This is a response to the protest planned today by the National Family Front which says "I don't attend marches that foment hate"  and "Families are diverse and we all are family". The national march by the NFF will take place today at 5pm in Isla Mujeres, when people wearing white will walk from the Fishermen's Monument, down Rueda Medina to the Town Square because they object to a Constitutional Reform concerning the definitions of marriage, and issues relating to assigning gender on legal documents and to adoption. There are likely to be peaceful protesters with mulitcolored banners or signs in response, who support diversity and this Constitutional Reform.
