A group of 15 Cuban balseros were spotted sailing in a homemade boat by the crew of the fishing boat "Kukulkan VII", near Punta Norte of Isla Contoy, who assisted them and notified the Navy. The Navy sent a search and rescue vessel to the location, and evacuated the Cubans. A Naval doctor provided medical assessments, and pronounced them to be in good health. They were given food and water. They were taken to the Naval Station in Puerto Juarez, where they arrived yesterday afternoon, and were handed over to the Immigration authorities. The rescue took place pursuant to the powers granted by the law to the Navy of Mexico to safeguard human life at sea.
Por Esto has a similar report, noting they are all adult males.

ISLA MUJERES, 20 de marzo.-
The collection will take place from March 19 to April 30, and the goal is to collect 180,000 pesos. The collection began with contributions from the City government, the Taxi union, a hotel, and a hospital in Cancun, starting the drive with 80,000 pesos. Last year the total collected was 169,000 pesos.
There was a march from the Navy base down the main street, ending at the Town Square, where donations were made and employees of the Red Cross of Isla Mujeres who had completed 15, 18, and 25 years of meritorious service were given awards. An overview of the history of the institution was given, noting that it has been on the island for 30 years.
