Cooperatives will receive their lobster permits
Por fin recibirán sus concesiones d.. [+] Ver mas

After a year of working with provisional permits for catching lobster, on Wednesday permits will be delivered to four to eight cooperatives of the 18 in Quintana Roo who capture lobster. At the port of Mazatlan, permits will be given to the cooperatives: “Cozumel”, “Langosteros del Caribe”, “José María Azcorra” and “Vigía Chico”, while Justicia Social, of Isla Mujeres, will receive theirs on March 15.
It is noted that all the lobster traps must be out of the ocean no later than February 28th.  The president of the Social Justicia cooperative said they are going to invest about 400,000 pesos in building 180 new traps. The frames cost about 120,000 pesos, the mesh costs about 200,000 pesos, and the cables and buoys cost another 80,000, for a total of at least 400,000 pesos.

Port reopened for small boats
Abren de nuevo el puerto a la navegación menor.. [+] Ver mas
On Sunday at 9pm, the port was closed for boats under 40 feet in length, which continued all day Monday. It was reopened for general navigation on Tuesday at 8:30, but it could be closed again for small boats if the winds increase.  Many of the fishermen have been in port for about six days, since they travel out to waters where the swell is greater.  (A norte blew in and the wind increased, as did the whitecaps on the Mar Caribe.)
Good weather has prevailed for those visiting the beaches, with temperatures of 27 degrees which feel like 29 degrees Celsius. (81F & 84 F), and there were many domestic and foreign tourists.

Excellent times in Isla Mujeres
Se vive uno de los mejores momentos [+] Ver mas
Overall hotel occupancy is at 85 percent and is expected to rise to at least 95% during Carnaval, which is one of the best times in Isla Mujeres. It is expected that this percentage may be maintained or even increase, until the Easter holidays when it is expected to reach nearly 100 percent. On Tuesday the HIM (Hotels Isla Mujeres) group reported 78% occupancy while the group Pequeños Hoteles Fascinantes reported 92 percent for an overall occupancy rate of 85 percent. During the first half of February, the overall occupancy was 84 percent, which broke down at 78% for HIM and 90% for the small hotel group.
Isla Mujeres has managed to position itself as a tourist destination of national and international preference and little by little it has stopped being the backyard of Cancun. Various people in the tourist industry say occupancy on the weekends would be higher, as would the number of day visitors, if ferry prices were more affordable. For a family of four, who are from Quintana Roo and remember their voter credential, the total is 584 pesos. While it is true that there is another ferry option for 50 pesos per person, its crossings are much less often. One small hotelier said, "In reality, what we need is another ferry company. Years ago, families and couples from Cancun came and spent the weekend on the island, staying in hotels, renting golf carts, and eating in restaurants, but now they have to chose whether to rent a cart or to eat out."
A good presence of tourists was seen downtown browsing the souvenir stores, shopping in the convenience stores, and walking the beaches, as well as touring the island in golf carts and visiting the places of interest.
