On two consecutive days there were spills of sewer water in two locations on the island, causing a bad image for the island and discomfort among visitors. The first occurred on Zazil Ha street, when several cubic meters of wastewater spilled into the sand near the pier-bridge that leads to Hotel Mia on Yunque Islet. There was also an overflow on Saturday at the northern part of Zazil Ha street.
Another overflow occurred at the well for the wastewater pumps on Rueda Medina, near the former facilities of the fishing cooperative Por la Justicia Social. This caused discomfort among visitors and islanders. Aguakan staff intervened and activated the pumps

Commitment to the security of families from the island: Juan Carrillo Soberanis
He said, "We reaffirm our commitment to continue working to improve the safety of island families, both on the isle and in the Continental Zone. We will not lower our guard. " He was Governor Carlos Joaquín González, who was delivering police patrol vehicles and equipment to the chief of the Department of Public Safety and Municipal Transit of Isla Mujeres.
The island's mayor recalled that one of the main requests he received during his campaign for office was the need to improve public safety throughout Isla Mujeres. He said that therefore, since his first day in office, "We are working hard to achieve this."
He said the support of the state government has been important in meeting this commitment to have better prepared and equipped municipal police. He acknowledged the Governor and the coordinated work with security institutions of the three levels of government.
In that sense, the mayor reported that in recent days - as part of that commitment - economic support was provided to police officers who have met the requirement of the tests of control and trust. He said, "Today we deliver these vehicles and this equipment, which will be of great help to continue improving the work carried out by the officers of the General Directorate of Public Safety and Municipal Transit
Quintana Roo Governor Carlos Joaquín González said that the state administration works closely with police departments in all municipalities to effectively prevent crime.He said that the delivery of patrol vehicles and equipment to the departments will be complemented by a security strategy, which will be announced in the coming days, which will have a technological platform that includes video surveillance cameras, security equipment and infrastructure in the centers for command control (C4), for better monitoring.
He said that society must assist in the work of crime prevention, which occurs when the police work closely with residents who, in turn, get involved and are familiar with their police. Jaime Ongay Ortiz, head of the Department of Public Safety and Traffic, said that the new vehicles will shorten the response time of the police in case of an emergency, and there will be better coverage with the patrols on the isle and in the Continental Zone (on the mainland part of the municipality.)
He reported that a total of 2 pickup trucks (four doors and equipped), 3 motorcycles, portable radios, computers and bulletproof vests were delivered.
There are three posters to register for teams for soccer, baseball, and softball.

Negative response to new speed bumps

New speed bumps were installed this weekend, which already caused an accident when a driver was going fast and lost control. Warning signs were installed with the speed bumps, but they were not painted as they should be. Municipal authorities were asked to intervene before there are unfortunate consequences. During the first two days, the installation of these speed bumps generated controversy on social networks, with the comments predominantly asking that they be well marked.
The transit authorities installed the speed bumps in response to local complaints, to prevent the high speeds that occur at these points. They were installed on the road to Garrafon, at colonia Caridad del Cober, and along the eastern coastal road in front of the runway. At these locations, and others, many high speed motorcycles increase their speed, although the speed limit is 40 kilometers per hour.
It is noted that the lack of urban transportation service exposes families to becoming potential victims of accidents when trying to catch a taxi, especially children coming and going from school or for recreation.
The high number of vehicle accidents in recent times on the island make it difficult to use the streets during the hours when thousands of vacationers are visiting, using golf carts, scooters and .... (it ends mid sentence) as transport.

"Pescadores" baseball team presented

The members of the Pescadores baseball team were presented at a meeting attended by a representative of the Mayor, Pedro Abirán Fuentes Cruz, the director of the municipal Institute of Sports, Natanael Gallegos Salinas, and team managers, who thanked the mayor for his support. The team will participate in the Quintana Roo Baseball League and are scheduled to play every fortnight at the El Pescador baseball field. The first game is scheduled for this Sunday. Names of managers and players are given.

Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. The Artist's Fairs are scheduled weekly on Thursdays at the Casa de Cultura, 4-9 thru April 20.
Yoga at the Casa Cultura on Monday & Wednesday mornings at 9am and Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 6pm. On the back street, Guerrero, at Abasolo.
