ISLA MUJERES, 22 de febrero.-
For the second time this year, car ferry service was suspended to Punta Sam which is uncommon. The strong North winds were more intense at the Punta Sam terminal since it does not have the same kind of natural protection as in Isla Mujeres, where the terminal is protected by the Bay. At 12:30pm on Wednesday, the ferry Sergio Aguilar Gracia was having difficulty maneuvering at the dock of the Punta Sam terminal, which was done successfully with the help of a winch located there. There were no incidents with the vehicles or cargo, and the management decided to suspend service, to avoid risking any mishaps.

Thanks to the good promotion of this destination a high level of hotel occupancy is expected this weekend on the island
GRACIAS A LA BUENA PROMOCIÓN QUE SE REALIZA DEL DESTINO, SE ESPERA ALTO NIVEL DE OCUPACIÓN HOTELERA DURANTE EL FIN DE SEMANA EN LA ÍNSULA
During Carnaval weekend, 95% hotel occupancy is expected in Isla Mujeres, with the arrival of regional tourists taking advantage of the long weekend to relax and enjoy this holiday. Traditionally, residents of Valladolid, Cancún, Chetumal, Mérida and other neighboring cities visit for a mini vacation, contributing to a 10% increase in the visitors vacationing on the island. The current hotel occupancy rate is at 85 percent thanks to the visitors from the US and Canada who spend long periods on the isle to escape the cold winter weather in their countries, often visiting year after year. These repeat tourists are attracted by the climate, the easy access to beaches & points of interest, and the atmosphere of tranquility that is a way of life here, which makes this a Pueblo Magico and a unique place in the Mexican Caribbean.
The Mayor said that it is important to emphasize that it is important to the municipal government to continue with the traditions and festivities that identify Isla Mujeres, as is the case with Carnival, encouraging the participation and enjoyment of the island families, as it is also an attraction for this destination to increase the number of visiting tourists.
The Isla Mujeres Carnaval 2017 will take place Feb 24-28 with various free activities for the whole family, with performances by the dance troupes, coronation of the kings and queens, live music on the Town Square, and parades on Rueda Medina.
City Council approves important agreements in favor of islanders
The City Council of Isla Mujeres unanimously approved several agreements on issues of transparency, municipal development, ecology, and seeking better benefits for islander families. A collaboration agreement was signed with the Ministry of Public Management for collaboration with transparency and the fight against corruption. An agreement was signed for participation in the Program for Municipal Development. A unanimous vote was made in favor of the creation of the Animal Care and Welfare Regulation (Reglamento del Cuidado y Bienestar Animal) which is an important step for the municipality in the management of pets. A report was given about water and sanitation services on the island and in the Continental Zone by an Aguakan representative.
The City of #islamujeres invites you to participate in the tournament of volleyball and football women that will take place on Saturday March 11th at 9:00 am on the rapid soccer field in Colonia La Gloria.
El H. Ayuntamiento de #IslaMujeres te invita a participar en el Torneo de Volibol y Fútbol Femenil que se llevará a cabo el sábado 11 de marzo a las 9:00 am en la cancha de fútbol rápido de la colonia La Gloria.
There is a video of the Artist Fair that says.... In Isla Mujeres art & local culture are promoted & encouraged. One of the featured events for tourists is the Fair of Art & Flavor / Feria del Arte & Sabor. Every Thursday at 4pm outside the Casa de la Cultura where hundreds of tourists and local residents enjoy examples of handicrafts, paintings, and food that is regional, national, and international, as well as live music and products that are made islander entrepreneurs, and much more.

Many golf cart 'pirates'
Infinidad de carros de golf piratas. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Owners of some golf cart rental agencies are complaining that "piracy" has increased with more and more carts being rented without plates, with private plates, or with only one plates, when they come in pairs. They also anonymously allege that there has been unfairness regarding SINTRA (Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport) not treating all companies equally, and regarding some agencies having an increased number of carts.
They also complain about the opening of at least five new rental agencies in recent years. It was said the number of units wouldn't be increased but the official number has gone from 600 golf carts to 800, and there are estimates that there are actually more than 1000 carts being rented, in addition to all the private carts. It has also been said that recent administrations wouldn't allow plating of more private carts, but that was not enforced by that government, nor the ones that followed, probably because of many complaints. It is noted that many islanders and foreign residents have made golf carts their usual means of transport and use them for transportation in their daily routines and chores.
Those who are complaining say that SINTRA and the municipal Transit department (traffic police) should make a census of each and every cart on the island and corroborate the numbers with the concessions granted to the agencies, and immobilize any cart that lacks plates, that only has one plate, or is being as a rental with private plates. The plates come in pairs, with one to be put on the front and one on the back, but some agencies divide one set between two different carts. There have been promises since the days of former mayor Paulino Adame Torres that no more golf cart permits would be granted.

As expected, the Isla Mujeres port was closed for small boats on Tuesday at 8pm due to strong winds from Cold Front #29, which gusted up to 50 kilometers per hour. In the early morning hours on Wednesday, snorkeling tours were allowed to El Farito and the lagoon area, and then these activities were suspended at midday. It is noted that the car ferry crossings were suspended after the ferry arrived at 12:25p and had difficulty docking due to the increased winds.
