Holy Saturday may have broken previous record of 24,000 visitors in one day
Van por nueva marca
Hoy se sabrá si Sábado de Gloria superó la afluencia de 24 mil visitantes

ISLA MUJERES, 27 de marzo.-
The previous record of 24,000 arrivals in one day occurred in December, and may have been broken on Saturday, March 26, when an estimated 25,000 people arrived to this holiday destination. Official information should be available on Monday.
During the Easter holidays an average of 10,000 to 15,000 people have been arriving daily, with higher numbers on the weekends, according to staff with the Port Authority (API). Hotel occupancy exceeded 95 percent on the weekend, and domestic tourism is keeping the island busy. It is noted that promotion and the recent designation as a Pueblo Magico have increased the number of tourists, which could double.
It is expected that the influx of tourists will be less during the second week of the holiday period, and hotel occupancy is predicted to be at about 70 percent. The next big boost in tourism is expected with the International Fishing Tournament "Cosme Alberto Martinez (Magana)", which should increase demand at the hotels.

The municipal department issued recommendations concerning snorkeling and diving to avoid accidents such as painful skin reactions, with advice to avoid touching things when in the National Marine Parks. This includes not touching fire coral, which is not exactly coral, but is in the same family, and can cause burning skin and lesions. It is more closely related to jellyfish than to coral, and fire coral is often confused with other marine plants. therefore when taking a snorkeling tour, it is important to avoid touching it.
Sea lice are a problem for divers and swimmers because they are very hard to see, and they occur during the summer months when jellyfish larvae are laid and left floating on the water. They are likely to enter swimsuits and become trapped, therefore it is advisable to shower after leaving the sea.
Lionfish have fins that look like colorful feathers, and do not appear to be harmful, but in fact they are harmful and should be avoided. Contact can cause severe effects including fevers with high temperatures, and divers or snorkelers should take care to avoid these fish.

Complaints about noise pollution
Se reaviva problema de contaminación auditiva.. [+] Ver mas Photo & full article at this link
Residents near the "Stin Gray" (sic) restaurant on the corner of Hidalgo and Mateos are complaining about noise affecting their families, saying the business refuses to lower the volume and is keeping them awake into the wee hours (la madrugada). Arturo Cutz Cardena, who held a child in his arms while speaking to the reporter, said he called Mayor Agapito Magana Sanchez in the middle of the night seeking his assistance to force this business to comply with environmental regulations. It closed on Sunday at 2pm after personnel intervened from the municipal Public Safety (police) and Ecology departments.
Other neighbors complain that the business has turned the music down when authorities come by, and then increases it again after they leave. The neighbors are also upset about the response to their complaints and say when an elderly woman asked for the noise to be reduced, she was told to go to an asylum (vaya a un asilo) and to go find a quieter place to live. One neighbor commented, "Senora Gladis has an embolism, which appears to be related to this noise pollution. There are more than a dozen children who need their rest, including some who are newborns. We are not willing to tolerate this nonsense."

For the third consecutive day, strong southerly winds caused restrictions for small boats, who were only able to operate within the Bay area. As of midday, there was still a "saldo blanco" (lack of incidents) reported by the lifeguards, who were very busy since not everyone was respecting their instructions and staying within the buoy line. This is challenging because there are currents affecting some areas outside the buoys, as well as boats. Both North Beach and the Posada Beach were busy, and at the latter there were many families who hung hammocks under the palms to enjoy the protection of their shade from the strong sun.
The businesses renting golf carts and scooters were busy, as were the taxis, which was reflected by the busy streets. The Navy installed more trash cans along Rueda Medina at the beach area to avoid trash problems from the many visitors. They were providing security and had a module set up at the Posada Beach (Playa Centro). The dive shops, boaters, and fishermen are waiting for better weather that will allow them to work and to share the beauty of this place with tourists.
Emotional depiction of the resurrection

The depiction of the resurrection in the front of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception church downtown concluded the 24th anniversary of the viacrusis in Isla Mujeres and was witnessed by hundreds of worshipers and tourists. The event began at 7:40pm and concluded two hours later. It stated with balls of fire falling that touched the ground to form a cross of fire. People gathered with candles and torches in hand, and the blessing of the new fire was given with the lighting of the candles.
More than three thousand people witnessed the reenactments of the viacruisis with better scenarios and costumes this year, and many of the visitors gave positive feedback and congratulations to the organizers, saying they would like to return with their families next year. These opinions came from visitors from Cancún, and from the states of Yucatán, Chiapas, México, Veracruz, and other areas.
The priest Raul Sanchez Alonso, who led the resurrection reenactment, called for deep reflection on this event, asking that family members and neighbors practice unconditional love and live by the principle of giving without receiving anything in return.
