Worldwide, on March 19th, annually, "Earth Hour" takes place which is an initiative to raise awareness about the importance of saving energy. Join us and together we will create a better planet to live on. The turning out of lights will occur on Saturday, March 19 from 8:30 to 9:30pm.
El 19 de marzo de cada año se realiza a nivel mundial "La Hora del Planeta", una iniciativa que pretende concientizar a la humanidad sobre la importancia de ahorrar energía.
Únete y juntos propiciemos un planeta mejor y más digo para vivir, el apagón de luces será el sábado 19 de marzo de 8 y media a 9 y media de la noche.
Successful Job Fair
The Mayor, Agapito Magana Sanchez, was represented by the municipal General Secretary Jose Castillo Magana, who said this is the fourth time this event was held in Isla Mujeres. The State Undersecretary for Labor and Social Welfare, Enrique de la Cruz Pineda said these Job Fairs are important with the increasing number of tourists arriving to the state, which generates more jobs and requires more workers. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony and the officials toured the booths.
Free services were also offered including hair cuts, manicures, massages, and more. There were municipal officials at the event, as well as Enrique González Contreras, Coordinador General de Servicios Estatales de Empleo y Capacitación para el Trabajo (SEECAT); Enoel Pérez Cortés, Delegado Federal del Trabajo; and other officials and special guests, as well as the general public.
The green areas and gardens are being pruned and cleaned to present a better image in Isla Mujeres for Easter vacation

Inauguration of more public works in the municipality
This is about three public works programs that will be done to improve infrastructure as part of the Habitat Program, which will also provide jobs and prevent crime. They include improvements of public lighting in Salina Grande, a bicycle path at the Frigates Park, and renovations at the Bicentennial Plaza.
Wednesday morning, Isla Mujeres Mayor, Agapito Magana Sanches, and the Secretary of Agricultural Development, Raul Gonzalez Castilla, announced a package of three projects for improvment of the urban infrastructure of the island.
The improvement to public lighting in Salina Grande is being carried out and includes 42 preformed concrete bases, 42 galvanized poles, 42 solar powered lights and their solar collecting equipment, and ten signs.
The bike path circuit near the Parque de las Fragatas will include the application of 818 square meters of latex paint, installation of 25 plastic benches with wood-like appearance, 22 double trash bins, and 20 signs.
The work on the Centro de Desarrollo Comunitario de la Macro Plaza Bicentenario, which is an important location for public events and activities, will include improving and waterproofing the roof, installing an hydraulic water tap, installation of a rainwater collection and storage system, installation of a centrifugal pump, and installing playground equipment and benches made of 'plastic-wood' (plastimadera).
These projects are being funded under the HABITAT work program and will benefit some 5000 residents while providing more than 40 direct jobs and 60 indirect jobs. This event was attended by fourth grade students of the primary school Julio Sauri Espinoza, as well as residents, who were asked to work together as inhabitants of the island to take care of these works and to be vigilant and report any vandalism or mistreatment to the works.
Officials who attended the event included the Mayor and representative of SEDATU, as well as municipal Secretary General José Castillo Magaña; el síndico municipal, Fidel Villanueva Madrid; and City Council members: Miriam Trejo León, Adriana Trejo González, Bartolomé Pech Matú, and Edmundo Altamirano Cruz.

Stroll five minutes southward down the coastal sidewalk to Mango Cafe, Bahama Mama, Brisas, or Manolitos. Walk less than 10 minutes southwest to shop at Chedraui or to dine at Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, or other options. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Our guests recommend the Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants.
