ISLA MUJERES, 24 de marzo.-
Thursday evening, following the 7pm Mass at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, priest Raul Sanchez Alonso portrayed Jesus at the representation of the Washing of the Feet of the Apostles and the Last Supper. This began the representation of the Passion and the Death of Jesus on the Cross in Isla Mujeres, and was followed by a Mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus church in colonia La Gloria.
On Friday, hundreds of faithful Catholics are expected to participate in the scheduled representation, which begins at the Sacred Heart Church in La Gloria and goes thru the traditional Stations of the Cross and passages of the Passion and Death of Jesus on the Cross, ending at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception church downtown.

ISLA MUJERES, 24 de marzo.-
Bus service resumed on Thursday, March 24 after more than six months without service, which was discontinued in September, 2015. This caused many islanders to be forced to use taxis, which cost them large amounts of money to get to their respective destinations of work, medical consultations, and daily activities.
There are rumors that the owners of the concession put the units in service, not because of a need to meet the demand for transport by the islanders, but rather because they are seeking an endorsement of their concession which will expire during this year. It is unknown whether the concession will be renewed or suspended during the current municipal administration, which will terminate at the end of September, or if that will be determined by the next administration.
There are comments on social networks criticizing the buses and saying they are in terrible condition.
Improving taxi service with more vehicles

ISLA MUJERES, 24 de marzo.-
In order to provide better service during this Easter holiday period, starting this weekend thirteen more taxis will be added to those operating on the island, increasing the number from 142 to 155 vehicles.
The leader of the taxi union, Sindicato de Trabajadores del Volante de Isla Mujeres“Gustavo Díaz Ordaz”, Eduardo Peniche Rodríguez, explained that an analysis determined that at peak times, there is an average of 15 taxis offering service downtown, while the other units are distributed around the island in areas such as El Garrafon, Dolphin Discover, parts of Sac Bajo, hotels, and other tourism areas. This leaves an insufficient number of taxis downtown for the people arriving on the ferries, which are increasing the crossings.
He said these 13 taxis were previously working on the mainland in the area of Punta Sam and have the most time/seniority there; therefore they were chosen to relocate to the island.

Realizarán juego de exhibición e.. [+] Ver mas Full article and photo at this link
On Saturday in the Green Dome, starting at 7pm. there will be an exhibition basketball game between the Cahuameros and the Balleneros, who are a group of young athletes in wheelchairs who began practicing the sport last year. They intend to compete outside of the municipality, and consider this as a warm up game. Their motto is "Jueguemos a ser yo", and the teams have tee shirts for the special guests, from their families and their fans, who support them, with people from the DIF, family services agency
. One of the players commented that it is difficult to make baskets because the chair continues moving, but that with intensive training they are becoming better at scoring.
After they complete this match, they intend to compete against the officers of the Police and Traffic Police, with hopes of raising their level of competitiveness so they are ready for the level of other teams in Quintana Roo.
The captain of the team, Manuel Perez Ayala said, "We plan to visit different people to invite them to play ( or to the game? para invitarlos a jugar) , and to experiment a little with how people in wheelchairs can live, and in this way to raise awareness. We want everyone to have a better quality of life." They plan to visit the City Council, the Navy, the fishing cooperatives and tourism cooperatives, and other institutions.
Isla Turicun bus reappears
Reaparece Isla Turicun. [+] Ver mas Full article and photos at this link
With less than 60 days left on their fifteen year long concession, during which the contract's requirements regarding quality, frequency, and safety were not fulfilled; the bus company Isla Turican once again has a bus ("unidad vetusta" lit: ancient unit) on the streets of the island. The original contract for a fifteen year period began on May 16, 2001, and will expire on May 16, 2016.
Some users have said that the contract could legally be withdrawn for breach of the agreement, because Clause 15 says the concession may be annulled by default such as failure to provide continuous and regular service. The grounds for termination of the contract include failure to provide service on a continuous regular basis, without user satisfaction, failure to maintain the vehicles in good condition to the detriment of users, for providing service with vehicles which exceed eight years in age and use and are not replaced with new vehicles, among other provisions.
It is noted that Turican repeatedly was not in compliance with Clause 15, to the point where they only operated one bus during the day, with about 15 years of usage. The contract requires three vehicles to cover two routes, operating from 6am to 11:59pm daily. The contract requires that service be provided until the conclusion of the contract in accordance with the provision of the contract which include: respecting the preset schedule; regular investments of funds for the maintenance, operation, and upkeep of the vehicles, that the concession may not be assigned to third parties, they must accept and acknowledge senior citizens, they must maintain the required number of vehicles in service, ....(The article ends mid sentence).
