    Intensificarán los operativos

0 25 de julio de 2015 By Carlos Gasca

Jorge Mejía Reyes, municipal Director of Enforcement (Fiscalizacion) said with the arrival of summer vacation season, they have intensified inspections, including for vendors who come to the island to sell fruits and vegetables in the neighborhoods, as well as vendors in the beach areas.
He said the vendors who are invading the beach areas are mostly from Cancun and other nearby places, seeking to take business away from established workers in Isla Mujeres. He said a year ago, they were able to remove the vendors from the beaches and Rueda Medina, in order to obtain certification of the beaches. He said the work that has been done will not be jeopardized or reversed because of vendors traveling in from other municipalities.
To address this they have increased surveillance by placing inspectors at strategic points such as parks and beaches where large numbers of people congregate, to detect these informal traders who give this holiday destination a bad image.
He said the operation is being carried out as part of "General Operations of Summer 2015" which includes the Mexican Navy, municipal Civil Protection Agency, the Ministry of Health, and his agency. He said the inspectors are not having breaks or vacations and work 24 hours a day, with the intention of covering the length and breadth of the island.

Renting out all the golf carts
Al tope renta de carritos de golfco.. [+] Ver mas
The twenty golf cart rental agencies rented out all 550 of their carts on Friday, when many domestic tourists arrived, including entire families seeking recreation around the island. The 50 private boats that bring tourists from the Hotel Zone of Cancun were busy, and a steady stream of visitors arrived on the ferries.
From about 10am the sidewalks were full of people as groups of 500 passengers arrived every 15 minutes at the Maritime Terminal, in addition to the catamarans and trimarans at the private docks. Until 5pm, two dozen private yachts were anchored 100-150 meters offshore from North beach, which was free of seaweed, as was the Posada beach.More visitors are expected this weekend, and it is estimated that 90 percent of the visitors are daytrippers, who do not stay overnight, and so the hotels are only half full.Merchants say sales have increased about 15-20 percent.
Security patrols from the three levels of government report no incidents, and tourism service providers are encouraged to promote a good image and be polite to visitors. Regarding the new PROFECO office at the Terminal (Federal Consumer Protection Agency), the manager of the small booth said they have not been presented with problems of complaint, and are focused on providing information for visitors about the types of services and their usual costs, avoiding middlemen.

The workshop is offered by master trainer Rodolfo Núñez Renault, who has 26 years of experience and national and international certifications with  la IRO, AVI de Francia, and  Federación Canofila Canina. He was invited by NGO's including CCDA and Perros de Búsqueda y Rescate (Search and Rescue Dogs).
Participants are asked to bring plastic bags to clean up feces,  to preferably bring their pet with an empty stomach, to bring sausage cut the thickness of a coin, a collar & strong leash, and a water bowl. They are asked to contribute 30 pesos.
The CCDA, civil association for the defense of animals, assisted with a campaign that placed hundreds of posters in public places since May as part of an awareness campaign about the need to provide protection and care for pets at home.

New controversy in Isla Mujeres
Nueva polémica en Isla Mujeres.. [+] Ver mas
The alleged deaths of several dogs who were Boxers while in the care of a foreign couple has generated controversy about the failure of municipal authorities to intervene and apply the animal abuse protection laws
Laura Ferri lives downtown with Paolo Palazzo, and they now only have one dog, after having lived at various locations on the island. It is alleged by a neighbor that they have owned six Boxers who died in nearly a  year, "Because she wanted them to be vegans and only fed them lentils and potatoes".  Another woman who says she is familiar with the situation, said they have had four dogs die.
Pictures were taken in September with three dogs in the company of Italian Laura Ferri, with evidence of malnutrition, on Playa Norte. The Director of the Department of Ecology was notified, who at that time was Cristina Medina Figueroa. On September 25th, the Director of Ecology impounded those three dogs and they were examined at the Clinica Colas at Mundaca.
In accordance with the laws, they were given back to their owners, on the condition that the owners would take them back to the veterinarian for examination. In November, the Ecology Department was advised that one of the dogs had died (it says 'another one' had died').
Now with the death of the next to last dog, and only one remaining, there are questions why the authorities have not given sanctions to the Italian couple,  and concerns about the fate of last Boxer. A communication was sent to the media seeking support to spread information about this case.
