Isla Mujeres is ready to provide safety and attention to the tourists who will be visiting during summer vacation season 2015
At the City Council chambers, the Municipal Operations Committee for Summer Vacation Season 2015 was installed with representatives of the involved agencies, institutions, and organizations in attendance. The meeting was led by the City General Secretary, Cesar Perez Poot, representing Mayor Agapito Magana Sanchez. He said they are ready to provide for the protection and safety of the thousands of tourists who have already begun to arrive for the summer holidays, and all the resources, human and material, are ready to meet any crisis that could jeopardize the safety of visitors.
Safety and security for summer visitors is ensured by judicious coordination and ongoing communication between the Director of the municipal Civil Protection agency and the institutions and agencies whose responsibility it is to protect the physical welfare of people. There are 20 Civil Protection personnel to monitor the beaches of the island and the mainland and respond to any situations there.
The Navy is patrolling the beaches of the island and of Puerto Juarez, by land and by sea. The Port Authority (APIQRoo), which is also a member of the Operating Committee, will monitor the boats that offer tours, ensuring they are meeting safety requirements such as having life jackets, rescue equipment, and first aid kits.
On the streets, roads, and other accesses to the beaches, the Department of Public Safety and Traffic (the police) have installed modules providing information and surveillance to prevent motorists from driving in an incapacitated state and causing accidents. There are 40 officers on the island and 20 in the Continental Zone who are responsible for ensuring that the holidays remain calm and without incidents.
To ensure that the tourists always find the beaches to be clean and hygienic, every day a group of employees of the Office of the Federal Maritime Zone (ZOFEMAT) will be responsible for sweeping and cleaning these public spaces, including the sweeping of the beaches.
Those who are taking responsibility for this destination include Salvador González Guerrero, of the Navy; Miguel Ismael González Gil, Harbor Master; Carlos Gamboa, of the Red Cross; Jazmín Pérez Gaytán, of APIQRoo; Pedro Zapata Loya, of the General Hospital of Isla Mujeres; Abirán Fuentes Cruz, Alderman president of the Public Security Commission; Leonardo Can, of ZOFEMAT; Tharin Vital Casique, municipal Director of Health and Mauro Humberto Rodríguez Velázquez, Director of Civil Protection.

Kirsten Tywan, project manager for the English Summer Camp of Volunquest Association said that most children registered in school and their spaces are reserved, but some parents forgot, therefore they may register their children Tuesday thru Thursday at the Community Center.
This year the third edition of Summer English Camp will include the Middle School students, and is offered in collaboration with volunteer teachers from the US, Britain, and Canada.
The first year there were 67 enrolled, last year there were 170 students, and this year they expect to exceed 300 children. There is no cost for the parents and the only requirement is that the children were enrolled in public school 2014-2015. -

Maldonado Euán, leader of the CROC union, explained the English classes will be available through an agreement with Harmon Hall, which enables workers to learn English without having to cross over to Cancun. The classes begin Friday, July 24 and two groups have already formed, with the possibility of increasing the number of groups.
Classes are available from basic to advanced, but the group is limited to 15 people, and they are offered on Friday or Saturday, depending on the group, for four hours. The cost is 1300 pesos bimonthly plus 500 pesos for materials, and there are a total of nine modules available, but it is up to the students to continue their preparations. The only requirement is to be at least 15 years of age.

There will be a photographic competition beginning Saturday, July 18, at the official municipal Tourism site on Facebook, (LINK ) and the photo with the most likes will be the winning image.
Saturday, July 18th when there will be a parade of golf carts and scooters decorated in sea themes, beginning at the concrete pier and continuing to the Town Square.
Sunday, July 19th A sand sculpture competition is scheduled (This usually takes place on the Posada beach and usually is for children, in two age categories) and in the evening there will be a a performance by the RBS Academy of Dance.
Monday through Thursday, July 20-23 5p-6p City Council Room: Lectures, workshops, and screenings of documentaries. After the conferences, there will be contests involving recycled materials, and there will be a photo exhibition on display.
