Few businesses participate in "Buen Fin"

Pocos negocios “le entran” al Buen Fin

As expected by the local chamber of commerce organization, CANACO, few businesses participated in the "Buen Fin" weekend Nov. 16-19, when companies offer discounts and sales. The businesses that participated included Boxito, Chedraui, and Elecktra, as well as one shop downtown that sells clothing and accessories.
Merchant Pedro Cruz said they essentially have Buen Fin all year because the tourists always bargain and they have to reduce prices by 20 pesos or so, or they will go elsewhere, and the store is always offering three for the price of two sales.
The CANACO representative warned about the pitfalls of accepting offers for months without interest, because consumers can end up paying high interest if the item isn't paid off when the offer ends.

No restrictions on navigation

Sin restricciones la navegación

On Saturday at 7:30am, the port was opened for general navigation without any restriction, however extreme caution was advised. Harbor Master Ana Laura López Bautista said that the effects of Cold Front #10 have begun to subside, after causing closure of the port for small boats for two days. The winds have reduced to 15-25 kilometers per hour, with stronger gusts, and the forecast is favorable for the remainder of the holiday weekend.
At the Caribe fishing cooperative, they said that one boat had gone out to catch fish, but the rest of them were waiting until the sea appeared calmer. They said in the days before the restrictions they were catching plenty of fish, but not many lobsters, and they hope this will improve after the norte. (They typically migrate south after cold fronts, and production improves because they are moving across the seabed.)

Workshop scheduled about cost control

Impartirán taller de control de costos

The workshop "Business Diagnostics and Business Support Programs" will be held on November 27, focused on establishing the foundations of strategic planning, establishing a method of diagnosis and control of costs for micro, small and medium entrepreneurs. They are encouraged to create a plan for financial order and quality control, establish strategy and sales plans, as well as specific action measures to improve cash flow.
It is scheduled to begin at 4pm at the Community Center in colonia La Gloria, and information is given about registration.

Residents want improved health care infrastructure

Piden mejorar infraestructura de salud

On Saturday from 10a to noon, a citizen forum titled "Health for All" was held at the Town Hall meeting room where residents requested better and more efficient infrastructure. The event was part of a series of citizen forums being held on various topics.
Dr. Karla García Velázquez, adviser to the Health Department, who led the forum said that about 15 people attended.  She said,"Among the concerns expressed, both in this and in the previous forums dedicated to health, are the lack of doctors and therefore the few opportunities to receive consultation, as well at the need for extended hours for medical care, and, above all, the need to have a new hyperbaric chamber, which was one of the Mayor's campaign promises." Information about upcoming forums is given, and it is noted that the hyperbaric chamber is reaching the end of its useful lifetime after 20 years.
