New Beach Club at Velasquez site
A renovation project is taking place along the main street Rueda Medina at the two piers in the federal zone of what was previously known as the Velasquez family palapa and the area of the "Caribe" cooperative, creating a Beach Club that should be ready by the end of the year.
Representative of the group, "By Hoka", Ricardo Guadarrama, explained that this will present a new image that will offer an important attraction for both the pedestrian zone and the interior of the bay. He said the idea behind this remodeling and Beach Club is to organize the catamarans and boats in general at the piers, presenting a more pleasant recreational area for the tourists and offering them a more pleasant waiting time, enjoying the facilities.
He said they have all the necessary permits, including the Environmental Impact Statement, and he noted that the project is totally environmentally friendly. He said the construction is now in progress and expected to advance next week when materials will arrive which are environmentally friendly including typical regional wood and reforestation with more coconut palms.
The Department of the Navy issued a statement regarding the two corpses of Naval personnel who were found in Cancun, and had been stabbed to death. They had been stationed in Isla Mujeres and were participating in activities for Independence Day in Mexico City, then had traveled back to Cancun and were off-duty.

"Delta" propane gas truck detained due to lack of permits
The Director of the municipal Civil Protection agency, Ulises Berman Graniel, said the propane gas truck from a "Delta Gas" company of Cancun was detained and could be fined in upcoming hours for operating in Isla Mujeres without a permit. The truck was described as a 'mini pipe' , and does not have permits to circulate on public roads of the island transporting LP gas, and has been supplying gas at incorrect hours. In addition, it is not registered with the municipal Civil Protection agency. The Director of the municipal Fiscalization agency said they had no knowledge of this business, but would be conducting an investigation.
It is noted that about two weeks ago, a standard type truck (camioneta tipo estaquitas...similar to a pick up truck that hauls things) of this company had been observed on the island, but the general perception was that it was only for the installation of storage equipment. However, the vehicle was seen on subsequent days, and on Wednesday the presence of the "mini pipe" truck was confirmed, which apparently arrived to supply some tanks already installed in Isla Mujeres.
Now that the Delta Gas mini-pipe truck was detained, it is expected that the company will be required to carry out the necessary procedures with the corresponding municipal agencies, and their presence on the island would mean competition for the other propane company that operates here.
Seven cat were poisoned of which four died and three are in recovery.
Veterinarian Delfino Guevara Collazo notified authorities that the seven cats had been poisoned with strychnine, which is used as to poison mice, and can be easily obtained at hardware stores on the island or in Cancun. It is suspected that the poison was put into ground meat, and it occurred only a few meters from his clinic.

The complex will occupy about 10,000 square meters along Rueda Medina, and should be ready for operation before the start of winter high season, according to the "By Hoke" company representative, Ricardo Guadarrama, at a press conference.
He said the project will have two docks, and the fishermen will be able to operate at the southern part of the property, with their own unloading area. The old palapas will be removed for construction of a single building of one level, which meets the specifications of the Environmental Impact regulations.
The Beach Club and two piers will receive the catamarans and general boats, presenting a fresher more innovative image and concept, according to Mr. Guadarrama , who says it will provide a pleasant recreational area and offer more pleasant waiting time for the visitors. He said it will be constructed with regional materials that are environmentally friendly, and include reforestation with more coconut palms. The conclusion of construction is expected to occur in two months.
