May 13 The forecast from CONAGUA (National Water Commission) said the effects of Cold Front #46 could cause rain on Sunday when it hits the hot Caribbean Sea. The forecast at 4pm from the SCT (Secretary of Communications and Transport) predict southeastern winds at 20-30kph with gusts over 40 kph, which could cause strong currents and choppy seas. The SCT said the front has already arrived to the coasts of the Yucatan and indications are that it won't have sufficient force to bring down the temperatures. As of 5pm there hadn't been any rain, but it was partly cloudy after 3pm.
The renters of golf carts said nearly all 800 were leased, to view the sites of interest and the tours to the south, however in contrast, the boat tour operators said only 20 percent of their fleet was active by noon. The dive shops had better business, however occupancy at the island hotels dropped to 30 percent.

Abandonment of Sculpture Park
Since the Sculpture Park at Punta Sur was inaugurated in December 2001, two sculptures have disappeared to to oxidation, because of the proximity of the sea. The works of art were donated by national and international artists to welcome people to this place where the rays of the sun first touch Mexico. There are complaints that the three levels of government have failed to provide maintenance. The municipal government collects a fee for visiting the site, and provides management, but the past four administrations have allowed the sculptures to deteriorate.
