Governor Borge reports that the number of passengers transported to Isla Mujeres has grown 64.5% in the past five years
EN 5 AÑOS EL NÚMERO DE PASAJEROS TRANSPORTADOS A ISLA MUJERES CRECIÓ 64.5: ROBERTO BORGE
Governor Roberto Borge Angulo reported that the number of passengers to Isla Mujeres has increased by 64.5% during his administration, and continues to grow, with excellent prospects for the upcoming months.  In 2011, there were 1,342,671 passengers transported to Isla Mujeres, while last year that number reached 2,212,591. This is a difference of 869,920, which is an increase of a little over 64.5 percent in the past five years.
According to APIQRoo (Quintana Roo Port Authority) between January and April, 712,314 passengers were transported to the island, which is an increase of 16% over the 626,678 who arrived during this same period last year. The Governor attributed this to intensive tourism promotion, the diversity of the island's attractions, its security, the quality of its services, and the warmth of its people, which have made Isla Mujeres a favorite destination for international and domestic tourists. He said its strategic location makes it a "must visit" spot for tourists who come to Cancun, increasing their opportunities for fun and entertainment.
The influx of visitors and rate of growth continues with 172,402 passengers arriving at the Maritime Terminal of Isla Mujeres in April, compared to 169,905 last year in the same month, which is an increase of 2 percent. APIRQRoo is  expecting the number of arrivals to surpass the one million mark in June, and projecting an 18 percent increase in the number of passengers arriving and departing at the Terminal for the first half of the year, compared to 2015.
The Governor said that strengthening tourism promotion for the state has been a priority since the beginning of his administration. Increasing tourism promotion for Isla Mujeres has made it one of the top destinations in the Mexican Caribbean. In addition, there has been improvement of  urban infrastructure and modernization of the port facilities. The Maritime Terminal opened in October 2014, after an investment of over 40 million pesos, which improved the quality of services and responded to the growing demand and the promising future.
The Director of APRQRoo, Erce Barron Barrera, said the increase in passengers to Isla Mujeres clearly reflects the progress achieved during the administration of Governor Borge.

Personnel with the Car Ferry company which travels between Isla Mujeres and Punta Sam, have been undergoing training since March to meet IGS Code certification, in compliance with international safety and security protocols, with audits by PDT (Personal Designada en Tierra,) people on land, as well as on the boat, at sea.  These systems allow identification of possible failures in the vessels, and include training to prevent pollution at sea and for the safety of passengers and crew. IGS stands for Sistema de Gestión para la Seguridad or Management System for Security.

Whale shark season "begins" without permits
Inició temporada, pero sin permisose.. [+] Ver mas Photo & full article at this link
The DGVS (Wildlife Department) has not yet released the 300 whale shark tour boat permits. According to new regulations, the area of the whale sharks has been increased from 279,285 hectares to  633,398 hectares, placing the entire area under the Management Plan, and the start date was changed from May 15 to May 22. The DGVS announced that the number of tourists allowed in boats under 40 feet has been reduced from ten to six.
The agency PROFEPA (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) had a project to encourage the licensees to install satellite equipment in all the boats, for general monitoring, but this was not established as a requirement. It has been said that no agents have been assigned, and in the past there have been complaints about whale sharks being abused or mistreated, with requests for improved surveillance by authorities. Several boaters said that in the past, the maximum capacity requirement around the perimeter of 16 boats has not been respected.
There is a plan to place buoys to cause freighters and cruise ships to modify their routes during the five months of the year when the whale sharks are in the area, which has been proposed, but not yet implemented.
