Search continues with more planes & boats added to the search & rescue efforts for the five missing fishermen

Aeronaves y embarcaciones se suman al rescate de los cinco pescadores extraviados

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 3 de abril.-
On Sunday, three planes and three boats joined the search for the five missing Isla Mujeres fishermen, which is becoming increasingly difficult due to the distance they may have drifted since the day they went missing. The Ultramar company contributed a large boat with the intention of starting a 'sweep' across 200 miles from Isla Mujeres into the Gulf of Mexico, taking into account that the Caribbean is already being searched by vessels that are ~35 feet long.
If no positive results are achieved by Sunday at midnight, on Monday two planes will be added to survey the area near Campeche, and another to search the coasts of the state of Yucatan.  On Sunday, a boat went to the area known as "Molas' near Cozumel with divers on board, to rule out the possibility that the boat "Anastasia" was sunk in the area, but there has been no information from that effort, and just news of the discovery of a longline for sharks found by a Cozumel boat.
Regarding the participation by three planes on Sunday; one was provided by the state government, another was paid for by a local businessman, and the third was paid for by contributions from family and friends of the missing fishermen.
The three boats that joined the search on Sunday are "Juan Carlos", "Hurricane", and "Chachalaca", of which one was used for the divers at the "Molas" area. Regarding the Ultramar boat, in the afternoon it began its journey heading 200 nautical miles from Isla Mujeres, heading into the Gulf of Mexico, to begin its search there. Due to its capacity and size, it can hold more that 2000 liters of fuel, and on board they have 20 containers, each with 200 liters of diesel fuel to refill the tanks. There are several people on board with binoculars to assist in the search.
Foreign friends of the missing fishermen are helping with the search, who say that although the search area is large, the "Anastasia" is a very secure boat and the crew are experienced, and therefore there is reason to hope that they will be fine, but time is of the essence. Because of this, assistance is being sought from Mexicans, as well as from Americans who are in the Florida area, who have boats that are 40 feet or larger and who are willing to assist in the search. It is noted that the Mexican Navy,  the US Coast Guard, and many private boats are searching.
In response to this request, the American boat "Emily Bliss, which is 60 feet, departed from Marina Paraiso in Isla Mujeres with seven people on board, of whom four are Americans and three are Mexican. It sailed eastward toward water that is 100-150 feet deep, where the boat will travel northward during the afternoon and night searching 150 to 200 nautical miles, and return on Sunday evening. At this time, there has been no sign of the fishermen, and the search will continue until all possibilities and clues are exhausted.

Campaigns for the upcoming election officially began on Saturday and will continue until until the election Sunday, June 5. Since the articles are rarely neutral, and foreigners are required to avoid political involvements or activities, I generally don't translate these articles, or I just summarize the parts that include general information.
The PRI candidate for Governor is Mauricio Gongora Escalante, and Isla Mueres Mayoral candidate Juan Carrillo Soberanis says they plan to work together for the benefit of citizens.

Support from sympathizers

ISLA MUJERES, 3 de abril.-

Islanders, as well as acquaintances and friends of the local fishermen, in Mexico and abroad, have sympathized with the families of the lost fishermen and have given financial support to help with the expenses for boat fuel and rental of aircraft in the search for the five missing fishermen. The response has been overwhelming from Mexicans and foreigners, allowing one of the planes that was leased on Sunday to be paid for with funds raised between Saturday night and Sunday evening. Comments on social networks indicate that contributions by foreign friends of the missing fishermen had reached five thousand dollars, and this is expected to continue in upcoming hours.
The support campaign began on Saturday afternoon, and continued into the night and on Sunday. Relatives of the missing fishermen are grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers from all these people, as well as involvement of people who are famous on social networks, such as Aracely Arambula who retweeted a message about the lost fishermen.
The anguish and despair of the relatives of the missing fishermen was expressed in a request on social networks for the intervention of the Secretary of the Navy, Franisco Vidal Soberon Sainz, to increase (redouble) the air search efforts. Rita Acosta Tum, wife of one of the young missing fishermen, asked for permission for the local runway to be used for planes which could be rented, to expedite the search and rescue efforts. She wrote, "The Admiral of the Fifth Naval Region (here in Isla Mujeres) has not wanted to give authorization, while my husband and four others have been missing at sea for three days."
There are comments on social networks asking for help from the Fifth Naval Region, which apparently doesn't want to authorize use of the local runway for aircraft to land. In addition, under his command is the Search and Rescue Unit, which did include a helicopter, but has no longer had it for over a year, because apparently it was assigned to another location outside of Quintana Roo.
At midmorning on Monday, the Go Fund Me account has nearly $15,000.  Thank you everyone for your generous contributions! The link is : https://www.gofundme.com/3wx7cg6s

Search continues for five missing Isla Mujeres fishermen
Three planes and four boats searched on Sunday for the five Isla Mujeres fishermen who have been missing since Thursday. While the weather continues to be an important factor in the search, the families and friends of the fishermen have not lost hope, and are actively involved with the search for the young fishermen.
Ultramar contributed one of its larger boats (140 feet long), with six crew members and 17 people from Isla Mujeres. Arturo Baez, Director of the Ultramar (ferry) company, reported that their boat "Piolin" ("Tweety") departed on Sunday at 1pm, equipped with enough fuel to sail for over 24 hours, combing an average of 150 to 200 nautical miles into the Gulf of Mexico. He said the boat would return tomorrow night, after searching for over 30 hours at sea.
On Sunday, three other boats also went out in search of the fishermen, who currently remain missing. One of these boats, the "Chachalaca" went to the area known as "Molas' near Cozumel with divers on board, to rule out the possibility that the boat "Anastasia" had sunk in the area, but there has been no information from that effort, and just news of the discovery of a longline for sharks found by a Cozumel boat. The other two boats that joined the search on Sunday are "Juan Carlos", and "Hurricane".
Regarding the participation by three planes on Sunday; one was provided by the state government, another was paid for by a local businessman, and the third was paid for by contributions from family and friends of the missing fishermen.
Foreign friends of the missing fishermen are helping with the search, who say that although the search area is large, the "Anastasia" is a very sturdy boat, with an experienced crew, therefore there is reason to hope that they will be fine, but time is of important.
It is noted that the Mexican Navy,  the US Coast Guard, and many private boats are searching.
In response to this request (for assistance from private boats), the 60 ft. American boat "Emily Bliss" departed from Marina Paraiso in Isla Mujeres with seven people on board, of whom four are Americans and three are Mexican. It sailed eastward toward water that is 100-150 feet deep, where they will travel northward during the afternoon and night searching 150 to 200 nautical miles, and return on Sunday evening.
At this time, there has been no sign of the missing fishermen, nor of their boat.

Unsuccessful search
Infructuosa búsqueda [+] Ver mas
  April 3
At the end of the third day of searching, the five fishermen missing since Wednesday have not been found. A meeting is scheduled for tonight to evaluate the coordinates that have been investigated and to plan the activities for Monday.
The focus point (?punto franco) of the search is the Yucatan Channel, where ten ships and six planes participated in the efforts to locate Jorge Fernando de la O Avalos,, aka “Pipis”; Marco Antonio Bardales Pastrana, aka “Vampiro”; Alfonso Jiménez Torres, aka “Chatilly”;  Rusel Pech Cemé, aka “Curro”; and Humberto Constantino Ordaz, aka “Beto”, who are the crew of the 33 foot fishing boat "Anastacia".
At nightfall, nearly all the boats had returned, who had searched about 100 miles northeast of Isla Mujeres. The planning meeting will be held in the palapa on the dock of "Patria & Progreso" cooperative, where the families and friends have been waiting together. Jaime Osorio Sanchez, one of the Directors of the cooperative, said there had been no successful results so far, but more departures are planned for Monday, and at the meeting that evening they will make plans.
Sources from the Navy and the Harbor Master's office agreed about this, reporting there is an alert along the entire coast of the Yucatan to locate the lost boat and its crew, whose last contact was Wednesday evening from an area near Punta Molas, Cozumel.
Relatives of the missing fishermen have not lost hope, and have made efforts to seek assistance and donation on social networks. They want the search by sea and air to be continued and to safeguard these lives at sea in the face of this tragedy. There is a chain of prayers (cadena de oraciones) in the local churches.

April 3   On the third day of searching for the fishermen who have been missing since Wednesday, there were a fleet of 10 boats and six aircraft participating, but no favorable results had been reported as of  early afternoon, according to Harbor Master Ismael Gonzalez Gil.
At an early hour, the boats and planes departed toward the Yucatan Channel to continue the search, while family and friends continued to request support from the community to pay for the fuel. In response to requests from the families and their friends, they were able to collect enough donations at the dock of the "Patria & Progreso" cooperative to cover the costs of the airplane fuel.
Of the six planes, one is from the Mexican Navy, who have an oceanic patrol in the area conducting search efforts since the moment the emergency began, according to sources.
Relatives confirmed that their pleas have finally been answered by all three levels of government, when they needed to seize the opportunity to expand the search into the Yucatan Channel, and to maintain marine band radio links with the coastal ports of the Gulf of Mexico, where US boaters have agreed to participate in the efforts to locate the missing fishermen.
Hope remains that Jorge Fernando de la O Avalos,, aka “Pipis”; Marco Antonio Bardales Pastrana, aka “Vampiro”; Alfonso Jiménez Torres, aka “Chatilly”;  Rusel Pech Cemé, aka “Curro”; and Humberto Constantino Ordaz, aka “Beto”, will be found, who are the crew of the 33 foot yacht-style fishing boat "Anastacia".

The support
On Saturday evening, one of the family members posted this message on the social networks: "I want to ask on behalf of my family, that people who want to help with the rescue of my brother Jorge Fernando de la O Avalos and his crew, can contribute at the jars set up at the Patria & Progreso cooperative. I want to clarify that this is not being done because of lack of support by the authorities, but rather the opposite,  we are being assisted 1000 percent; however, all possible help is necessary for  them to be returned safely to us. Please share. "

Another wrote:
"Good evening friends, the islanders are known for coming together in solidarity when one of us is suffering or in need, and today we will not be indifferent! Now we asking everyone's help to buy gas to continue the search for our brother fishermen, and even donating a single peso will help! There are spouses, children, and other family members at the super (grocery store) and cooperative. Gasoline is needed for the boats participating in the search."    As you may recall, at 1 pm on Friday a search was begun by a plane from the Mexican Navy; and search was initiated by a patrol boat from the Fifth Naval Region. On Saturday,  there were no aircraft,  while seven island boats joined the search. That evening,  relatives and friends lobbied the government and began collecting funds to finance part of the search on Sunday.      During the evening meeting held on the pier of "Patria y Progreso" contacts with ports on the Gulf of Mexico were initiated and boaters from the United States offered to join the campaign. Since that time, the US Coast Guard has remained on alert to collaborate in international waters.

Questions
Some relatives have questioned the slow response by the Mexican government and some authorities, particularly the Fifth Naval Region in regard to not continuing to search by air on Saturday. People on social media are asking the press to spread the word to seek help advancing this search, because time is crucial.

On the next to last day of the Easter holiday season, thousands of visitors arrived to the island from the Cancun Hotel Zone, Puerto Juarez, and Punta Sam. After the rain at 9am, groups began to appear on Rueda Medina boardwalk, heading toward the beach to enjoy the sea on Sunday, with security measures in place to assure a safe visit.
Lifeguards were actively patrolling the kilometer of beach, and paying particular attention in the area of Playa Sol, advising swimmers not to leave the area enclosed by the buoys, which were installed for their safety. The Maritime Terminal was very busy until noon, and in the afternoon people were returning to the mainland. The beach became quite empty by 6pm when the sky had become partly cloudy, and the yachts anchored in the area began returning to Cancun.
On land
On land, the movements of the visitors were under control, with no mishaps occurring, while the more than 20 leasing agencies have again been urged to provide information about laws to their clients. They rent more than 550 golf carts, hundreds of scooters and bicycles, while there are over 150 taxis,  all providing services to the many visitors who want to move around the island and visit its natural attractions.
The Tortugranja had a great number of visitors, who learned about the evolution and conservation of turtles, and saw a variety of species at the aquarium. It is noted that this facility has some shortcomings, which have previously been addressed by this newspaper.
