Playa Norte Isla Mujeres is recognized as the second best beach nationwide under the Tourism Tianguis Acapulco TripAdivisor 2015.
Receiving this gratifying recognition was in addition to the positive results that the mayor Agapito Magana Sanchez had at the Tianguis Touristico Tourism Convention.
TripAdvisor is the world's largest travel site that allows travelers to plan and experience a perfect trip based on the trusted advice provided from real travelers. The Director of Tourism, Gustavo Rodriguez Orozco, said Isla Mujeres was in fifth place last year.
Of the ten beaches given awards in Mexico, five were located in Quintana Roo and Tulum won first place.

Vacation period starts well for hotel industry
Buen inicio vacacional para la hotelería[+] Ver mas
Overall, hotel occupancy is at 73% and expected to reach 95% on Holy Thursday. The port was opened for navigation by all vessels at 7am, after being closed (for small vessels) for about 59 hours. On Tuesday, tourism activity was excellent with hundreds of visitors arriving for the day on boats and ferries, which were virtually at one hundred percent capacity.
This caused the cargo ferry to add two more crossings on Monday thru Saturday, and three more crossings on Sundays for the two boats that cross between Isla Mujeres and Punta Sam. Beginning on Tuesday, March 31 they increased from eight to ten round trips on Monday thru Saturday, and from four to seven trips on Sunday, to be continue through Holy Week. There are hundreds of domestic tourists arriving via their ferries because it is the least expensive, and for this reason they increase the number of crossings during Easter break.
Hotels are booked at nearly 100 percent from Thursday to Sunday, and in many cases also during the following week. From an early hour the main streets are full of foreign and domestic tourists, many of whom are loaded with luggage, coolers, beverages, and even chairs, including families from Cancun. Businesses are doing well, including stores, golf cart rental agencies, boat tours, restaurants, and diving tours.

Baltazar Gómez Catzín, president of the Regional Federation of Fishing Cooperatives in the state, advised the fishermen and other seamen to carry their permits on board and assure that all their safety equipment is in order. There is increased monitoring by the Harbor Master and the Navy during Holy week.
He also invited the fishermen of the cooperatives and the licensees to take a free survival course, which is one of the requirements for renewal of their permits.
In response to a question he said the fishing cooperative are beginning procedures this year to renew their lobster leases, to obtain a temporary permit to work at the start of the season, while the new concession is granted, valid for 20 years.
He said he has contacted the cooperatives of Tulum, of Puerto Morelos, and Vanguardia del Mar of Holbox Island to expedite their requests for temporary permits, as well as their applications for their concessions, so they don't lose them. He said these three cooperatives will submit their paperwork to Mazatlan because it is more direct and faster than sending it to Chetumal.
There are 23 lobster fishing cooperatives in the state, of which 15 have permits that require annual renewal and the other eight have concessions with a term of twenty years, which in many cases are due to expire.

Promotion has begun for this 12th edition which will take place in May 22-24, with more than 120 vessels expected to participate. Last year there were 117 boats registered.
Marketing includes a booth at the Expo Adventures event held at the Convention Center in Merida, and promotions in Playa Carmen, and one last weekend in Puerto Morales. Next week, during the end of Easter holidays, it will be held in the Rivera Maya and the state of Yucatan.
Director of Fishing, Humberto Moguel, said that it is even being promoted abroad with tourists who visit this destination repeatedly returning to their places of origin carrying banners and posters to displace there.
