About 400 athletes are expected to participate in the Triathalon "Triatlón de Convivencia Isla Mujeres-Punta Sur 2013" on November 3, when it begins at 10am. The swimming segment will be between the Captain Dulche facility and the Municipal Storm Shelter to Garrafon.  (el recorrido a nado se llevará a cabo en el área marítimo que se ubica frente el restaurante-museo Capitán Dulché, a la altura del Refugio Municipal contra Huracanes, rumbo a El Garrafón.)The cycling segment will go from Garrafon at the southern part of the isle to the center part of the isle and take the cross street by Mundaca Hacienda and return to the starting point. The final part of the race will be running which will follow the same route as the cyclers, but will reach the area by the beach Acapulquito, and take a turn through the colonias to the street to Garrafon and return to the starting point. The event is open to people who have competed in other Triathalons, as well as people who have not. This is a local event in Isla Mujeres that is not sanctioned by the Federación Mexicana de Atletismo, and therefore will not affect the athletes rankings.

Islander Néstor Pavón was bitten by a snake while working in Felipe Carrillo Puerto and is out of danger now, but his medical care has already exceeded 13,000 pesos. His friends and family have been seeking help with the costs through social networks. He was taken to the General Hospital in Cancun, but was not receiving treatment quickly enough so his father moved him to the Clínica Quirúrgica del Sur, where he was treated and now his health is stable. Nestor Pavon is known for his welding shop in colonia La Gloria. Anyone with donations can call 998 240 18 44 for Carlos Pech or Natanael Gallegos at 9982210513

The increase in the VAT (IVA) from 11% to 16% is expected to affect sales of sea products, and fishermen expect a decrease in demand and an increase in prices. They are unhappy about this and wish the authorities would consider some other course of action.
